Welcome to The Official Film Chart.

THE UK TOP TEN

We can consider this the first chart rundown of 2025, despite there being one last week on New Year’s Day. To this end, we will see new entries, re-entries and the loss of some of the titles we have been seeing at the backend of last year. But what is the official UK number-one title for this opening week? Cast a spell as we take our look at the first chart of 2025.

WICKED CASTS A SPELL AT THE TOP OF THE CHART!

No delusions of grandeur here! Wicked makes a magical Number 1 debut on the Official Film Chart. Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, musical marvel Wicked earned a very impressive 164,500 digital downloads this week, with just two days’ worth of sales. It’s the first new Number 1 of 2025 and shows there’s still plenty more to come from one of the most celebrated films of 2024. It also marks another major chart milestone for the film; upon its release in November, the film’s soundtrack broke records as it topped several music charts and scored the biggest streaming debut for a musical soundtrack in UK chart history. CONCLAVE GETS ITS PRAYERS ANSWERED AT NUMBER TWO!

Meanwhile, another brand-new entry lands at Number 2 this week in the form of the mystery thriller Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci. When Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with leading the selection of a new Pope, he finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy that could shake the core of the Catholic Church.

THE CURTAIN FALLS ON THE FIRST CHART OF 2025!

And with that, we bring the curtain down on the first top ten chart of 2025. It may be yet another wonderful year on home entertainment, with the big Christmas releases heading our way. Films such as Gladiator II (Read our review here), Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Read our review here), and Mufasa: The Lion King (Read our review here) will be coming to the home formats sooner rather than later with some huge movies due to open in cinemas during the year which will boost the home entertainment formats. It could be a bumper year ahead, so until next time…
