Blumhouse has released a new poster for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, hinting that something eerily sinister is on the way this Christmas.
Although we still know very little about the plot of the film, Blumhouse is firing up the marketing campaign for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The sequel to the first adaptation of the game franchise is emerging from Freddy’s Pizza Parlour and onto cinema screens this Christmas – and the hype is building. In a change to the release strategy, the sequel is releasing on December 5th, unlike its predecessor, which debuted in cinemas in time for Halloween. However, given that the original film went on to gross just under $300 million at the global box office, Blumhouse and Universal are banking on the film to deliver a very Merry Christmas for the respective studios.
With original stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard all reprising their roles from the first film, who would bet against the movie hauling in another bumper crop of Christmas cash? Throw in some new additions to the cast, such as Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Teo Briones, and the film appears to be a shoo-in to dominate the festive fun. But before we risk the wrath of Freddy and his gang, check out the poster below.
MORE FREDDY, MORE TERROR
Star Josh Hutcherson recently teased that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will amp up both the fun factor for fans and the stakes for the characters, saying the movie is “much bigger; the stakes are higher. There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way. We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded…I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”
SCOTT CAWTHON
As mentioned, the plot of the film is still under wraps, known only by a select few at Freddy’s Pizza Parlour. However, with Josh Hutcherson’s comments taken into consideration, the sequel aims to deliver more of what the original was successful at and expand the roster with more characters that we can shake a pizza slice at. So, fans have a lot to look forward to. Emma Tammi, who directed the first film, returns to the director’s chair for the sequel. Scott Cawthon, creator of the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game franchise, has written the screenplay and serves as the film’s producer.
RELEASE
Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first film, I am looking forward to seeing what Scott Cawthon has in store for us this Christmas. The franchise has bags of potential, and if the creator can capture the same lightning in a bottle that crafted the game series, we could be about to be rewarded with something very special, and I am 100% here for it.
