A New Retro Poster for James Gunn's Superman Emerges from Metropolis

Look up, DC fans, because James Gunn’s Superman is swooping in from Metropolis with a new Richard Donner-inspired retro poster!

The Superman world tour kicked off in Manila yesterday, with around 30 minutes of exclusive footage shown to those lucky enough to be in attendance. Director James Gunn and stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were on hand to greet fans and reveal the first 30 minutes of the film. The buzz afterwards was extremely positive, with almost every fan hailing the film as a triumph.

But that doesn’t mean fans around the world weren’t rewarded with something to write home about. During the event, a glorious new retro poster for the film was revealed. The poster features David Corenswet’s new Man of Steel in the style of the original theatrical one-sheet for Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie. Check it out below.

What a fantastic poster! DC’s design team has excelled, creating a perfect appetizer for fans to enjoy before the main event. Let’s be honest: any DC poster featuring the Man of Steel is always top-tier awesomeness. That’s why we chose it as our header image. But it is wonderful to see David Corenswet’s Superman connecting to Christopher Reeve’s definitive Man of Steel. James Gunn has gone above and beyond to capture the essence of the Christopher Reeve movies, and if he captures the same lightning in a bottle as his costume design team, DC fans will be in for a treat this summer.

THE MAN OF STEEL RETURNS

James Gunn’s impressive cast features David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor. They will be joined by Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Also joining them are Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

RELEASE

Although the film’s release is still a few weeks away, there is still plenty of Superman fun to look forward to. UK fans can look forward to a Q&A with James Gunn at London’s iconic HMV store on Oxford Street, as well as a special preview event. And, most recently, David Corenswet’s new Superman was added to Fortnite. You can fly around the map as the Man of Steel right now. Here’s how.

James Gunn’s Superman will fly into cinemas on July 11, 2025, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
