The Trailer for the RED SONJA Reboot Unleashes the Fury!

Vengeance is unleashed in the new trailer for M.J. Bassett’s Red Sonja reboot from Millennium Media.

The long-gestating Red Sonja reboot finally has a trailer. After years stuck in developmental hell, Signature Entertainment has picked up the distribution rights for the UK and Ireland. With the film set for release in August, Millennium Media has dropped the first trailer for the blood-covered barbarian flick. Based on the best-selling comic book series, the fantasy follows barbarian huntress Red Sonja, who must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against the evil tyrant Emperor Draygan and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia. Check out the trailer below.

REBOOT

The film stars Matilda Lutz (Revenge), Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), Wallis Day (Sheroes), Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves), Luca Pasqualino (Snowpiercer), Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), Martyn Ford (Final Score), Ben Radcliffe (Cuban Fury), Eliza Matengu (Predestination), Veronica Ferres (Crisis), Phillip Winchester (Strike Back) and Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead).

Director M.J. Bassett appears to be bringing a faithful adaptation of the iconic comic book to life, which is welcome news. Although the 1985 version, starring Brigitte Nielsen, boasted a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian, the film failed to win over its audience and quickly faded into cult status. So the studio will be hoping that audiences flock to it when it hits our screens next month.

RELEASE

Whether you’re a fan of the classic comic or even the forgettable 1985 iteration, it is great to see Red Sonja back in the saddle. Although the production value might be lacking in places, there is more than enough quality on display in this trailer to have us lining up for tickets. Whether it’s the endless bloodletting or battling it out with monstrous creatures, there is more than enough action to have us invested. So let the mayhem begin.

Red Sonja is set for release in UK cinemas on August 15.
