From the legendary writer and director, Spike Lee, we will soon get his latest joint in cinemas. The film, Highest 2 Lowest, hits cinemas and Apple TV+ on September 5th. This film is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese movie “High and Low.” It was loosely based on the 1959 novel “King’s Ransom” by Ed McBain. The cast includes Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, ASAP Rocky, and Ice Spice, who is making her film debut. Alan Fox wrote the screenplay for the film, which was delivered to Lee before the COVID-19 pandemic. THE PREMISE

When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business”, is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller High and Low, now played out on the mean streets of modern-day New York City.
