THE UK TOP TEN TITLES

This week sees two new entries and one re-entry into the weekly placings. As such, we must wave a fond farewell to Lilo & Stitch, A Minecraft Movie, and How To Train Your Dragon. But what are these three titles, and where have they entered the chart? Get your rage on as we find out.

28 YEARS LATER RAGES ON AT THE TOP!

28 Years Later continues its reign at the Official Film Chart summit. Two decades after redefining modern horror, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland reunite. They deliver a new chapter in the 28… saga. Anchored by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, the film blends harrowing suspense with intimate character drama. The story is seen through the eyes of a child navigating a fractured Britain. Nearly three decades after the Rage Virus first tore through Britain, fragile pockets of survivors have carved out a life on a quarantined island. Among them is 12-year-old Spike. He ventures to the mainland with his father, Jamie, in search of a cure for his mother, Isla’s mysterious illness.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE IS HANGING ON IN THERE!

Still riding high is Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2). The 2025 action spy movie sees Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) come out of hiding two months after the events of the previous instalment, Dead Reckoning, battling a rogue AI known as the Entity, which has seized control of the world’s nuclear arsenal. He and his IMF allies – Benji (Simon Pegg), Grace (Hayley Atwell), and a terminally ill Luther (Ving Rhames) – race to retrieve a cruciform key and the AI’s source code from a sunken Russian submarine. With Luther’s sacrificial ‘poison pill’ plan, they lure the Entity to a fortified digital vault in South Africa – but can Hunt successfully stop a global annihilation?

TAKE YOUR PICK-NOBODY 2 OR SMURFS?

This week sees two new movies hit home entertainment. The first is the action sequel, Nobody 2. Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organisation. He is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs.  Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (International Emmy nominee Connie Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids (Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath) on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark. The only place where Hutch and his brother Harry (Grammy and Emmy nominee RZA) went on a vacation as kids.

With Hutch’s dad (Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd) in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville (“Plummerville is Summerville!”), eager for some fun in the sun. If this sounds like your kind of movie, rent it for £15.99 or buy it early for £19.99.

The second offering is the family movie, Smurfs. When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe. SMURFS features an all-star voice cast, including Rihanna. James Corden. Nick Offerman. JP Karliak. Daniel Levy. Amy Sedaris. Natasha Lyonne. Sandra Oh. Octavia Spencer. Nick Kroll. Hannah Waddingham. Alex Winter. Maya Erskine. Billie Lourd. Xolo Maridueña with Kurt Russell and John Goodman. The film is available on retail for £13.99.

WILL EITHER TAKE THE TOP SPOT NEXT WEEK?

With 28 Years Later standing tall at the top of the chart, can Nobody 2 or Smurfs make a dent next week and grab that coveted top spot? Will it be horror, action, or family fun at Number one next week? You know what to do. Join me again next week to see what’s making the grade on home entertainment. So, until next time…

Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
