The New UK Trailer And Poster For The Chronology Of Water Have Been Released

The feature directorial debut from Kristen Stewart, The Chronology Of Water, gets a new UK trailer and poster ahead of its release.

A new UK trailer and poster have been released today by BFI Distribution for THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER. This is the directorial feature debut from Oscar-nominated actor Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, Spencer, Personal Shopper, Love Lies Bleeding). It premiered in Un Certain Regard at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

Adapted by Kristen Stewart from the acclaimed memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch, The Chronology of Water stars Imogen Poots (The Father, Green Room, Vivarium). She delivers a fearless, powerful, and intimate performance. There is support from Jim Belushi, Thora Birch, Charlie Carrick, Susannah Flood, Esmé Creed-Miles, Earl Cave, Kim Gordon, Tom Sturridge, and Michael Epp. The film is a poetic, unflinching exploration of identity and self-discovery. It also explores resilience. Stewart brings it vividly to life with her assured directorial vision.

THE PREMISE

The Chronology of Water is a portrait of Lidia, brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol. She escapes through competitive swimming, sexual experimentation, toxic relationships, and addiction. Before finding her voice and her unexpected freedom, she turns to writing. Lidia’s journey explores how we can transform trauma into art by reclaiming our own painful histories. This is especially for those uniquely felt by women and girls.

“The Chronology of Water” features a talented team, including Michael Pruss, Rebecca Feuer, Charles Gillibert, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov, Svetlana Punte, Maggie McLean, Kristen Stewart, Dylan Meyer, and Andy Mingo. This exciting project comes to life through a collaboration between Scott Free, CG Cinéma International, Forma Pro Films, and Nevermind Pictures.

OUR VIEW

We’ve seen the film. Despite the positive reviews the film has received, we sadly didn’t agree. I said of the film:

While I applaud Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut with her adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s novel, The Chronology Of Water, based on her true-life experiences, it’s a two-hour mess.

Our editor, Phil Roberts, had this to say about the film:

Kristen Stewart’s #TheChronologyOfWater is a bold directorial debut that doesn’t hit the mark. Any coherent message the film conveys is suppressed beneath an endless tsunami of drug and alcohol-fuelled, self-indulgent, self-gratifying drivel.

I applaud the effort…but please!

Make up your own minds when The Chronology Of Water opens in UK and Irish cinemas on February 6th.
