Break The Machine. Change The Games. All Machines Can Be Broken. Prepare for the sunrise. Prepare for the Second Quarter Quell this November.

Lionsgate has released the first full-length trailer and a new poster for THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING. The film adaptation of the best-selling novel hits theaters on November 20, 2026. In this film, we revisit the world of Panem. It follows young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games. Specifically, it starts on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

THE PREMISE

Set 24 years before the first film, young Haymitch Abernathy faces the challenge of competing in the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. This edition of the games features a unique rule twist that occurs every 25 years. For the 50th Hunger Games, each district of Panem must send twice the number of tributes to the Capitol, who will fight to the death in said Hunger Games.

The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ralph Fiennes, and Glenn Close. It is both a sequel to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and a prequel to The Hunger Games.

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson also reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Francis Lawrence directs from a screenplay adaptation by Billy Ray. Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson produce. Cameron MacConomy executive produces. The five films in the franchise have taken in over $3.3 billion at the box office.

Sunrise on the Reaping sold 1.5 million copies in its first week on sale in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The 1.2 million copies sold in the U.S. are twice the first week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and three times the first week sales of Mockingjay.
