Silo Season 3 Review Apple TV

“The best show on Apple TV is back, and it doesn’t disappoint. Silo returns in spectacular fashion, delivering its best season yet.”

The second season of Silo concluded last year with a huge cliffhanger – Juliette and Bernard were locked up in the incinerator as it fired up. The wait is finally over; the acclaimed TV series is back. A fourth and final season has already been announced. Season 3 premieres on July 3rd on Apple TV.

BEFORE THE SILOS

Season 2 was divided between what was going on in Silo 18 and Juliette’s story in Silo 17. Season 3 is also divided, but this time between two timelines – the present, continuing the story we know, and the past, 350 years before the Silos. Despite being set three centuries apart, these two timelines are deeply connected. Why go back to the past? To reveal why the Silos were built and what happened before the end of the world. It’s captivating to watch the past unfold.

This storyline is essential to understand what happens in the present. The revelations that come with it are huge. While the final season still has some unanswered questions to tackle, this season uncovers a great deal, the most important part. In the past, the story follows Daniel and Helen, the two characters introduced in the season 2 finale.

THE STORY CONTINUES

The present timeline picks up three months after Season 2, bringing us into the newfound peace in Silo 18. But don’t worry, what happened just after that cliffhanger is revealed later on in the season. Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) is now the new mayor; it seems like a good thing. However, it can’t all be going well. Indeed, there’s a new problem – she has amnesia. And Camille Sims (Alexandra Riley) is the new head of IT, replacing Bernard (Tim Robbins). If you thought Bernard wasn’t a benevolent man, Mrs Sims is no better. Throughout the season, you’ll come to hate her. She makes increasingly extreme and lethal decisions, showing no regard for the consequences for her family and the people of the Silo.

This new dynamic in Silo 18 leads the characters to make some tough decisions and question their allegiances. It also allows the story to explore different sides of several characters, including Robert Sims (Common). He has always been a compelling character, but this season explores his complexity in greater depth, revealing a different side of him. Every character has something to do, and the story doesn’t leave anyone behind, including those from Silo 17.

A SPECTACULAR RETURN

A lot happens this season, as layers are peeled back, revealing big surprises and unexpected twists. Undoubtedly, this is the best season yet; not just because of the revelations from the past and present but also because of everything that happens and the bold narrative choices it makes. Silo surely makes a spectacular return. Events from the previous two seasons all come into play here, with every detail proving important. It’s all coming together.

From start to finish, it’s a captivating season, and the series makes perfect use of its ten episodes—every moment matters. More than once, the audience will be on the edge of their seat. Episode five stands out as the best and serves as the turning point of Season 3, while the final two episodes are as big as it gets. The stage is set for the final season. Near the end of the season, there is a shocking opening sequence that will leave everyone speechless.

CAST

Rebecca Ferguson continues to shine in the lead role, and this season she’s back where she belongs—front and center. After having less screen time in Season 2 due to being stranded in Silo 17, her return to Silo 18 gives her the prominence she had in the first season. She delivers another outstanding performance. Undoubtedly, it’s Emmy-worthy. Moreover, Common remains one of the standouts in this excellent ensemble cast. This season allows him to explore different sides of Robert Sims, and he delivers a nuanced performance that highlights the character’s complexity. Alexandra Riley is also amazing; she delivers a strong performance here. With her performance, she really sells Mrs Sims’s unlikeability.

On top of that, Ashley Zukerman and Jessica Henwick who first guest-starred in Season 2 are now series regulars. They make great additions to this cast. Colin Hanks is among the new additions; he plays billionaire Stensen, a role that suits him well.

VISUALS AND SOUNDTRACK

Furthermore, this series continues to have stunning visuals. Every time there is a wide shot of the Silos, you can feel how huge these things are. There’s also a nice contrast between the past and the present in terms of colors. In the present with the Silos, it’s dark and muted because they’re inside, while in the past it’s more colorful as the characters are in the outside world. Using black and white for a particular sequence in an episode works really well. Finally, Atli Örvarsson’s musical score is still memorable; the opening credits are something you never want to skip.

VERDICT

The best show on Apple TV is back, and it doesn’t disappoint. Silo returns in spectacular fashion, delivering its best season yet. Moving seamlessly between the present day and 350 years before the silos, it’s captivating from start to finish, packed with major revelations and unexpected twists. It’s a real mystery why this series still hasn’t won any Emmy awards, because it deserves everything. Rebecca Ferguson continues to shine in the lead role, delivering another outstanding performance. Common remains one of the standouts in this excellent ensemble cast. Ashley Zukerman and Jessica Henwick, who guest-starred in Season 2, make great additions as series regulars.

Silo season 3 premieres on July 3rd on Apple TV.
