The Future State initiative continues with a look at everyone’s favorite queen of crime, Harley Quinn, written by Stephanie Phillips and drawn by Simone Di Meo.
I can’t say that I am a huge fan of Harley Quinn. At least not in any solo adventure capacity. I went ahead and read this one because I was given the (false) impression that it dove a little more into the inner operations of the Magistrate. In that aspect, I was not given what I expected. But that is not the fault of the creative team. I blame the person that wrote the review that I read for giving me that false impression.

The story is interesting. Specifically, the idea of Jonathan Crane (previously known as The Scarecrow) getting cured, going straight, and capturing Harley. Specifically to use as a criminal profiler to catch criminals that have thus far alluded him.
THE VOICES
Stephanie Phillips has a good grasp of the Harley Quinn character and I enjoyed her diving more into her skills as a psychologist. We got to see more than the same old kill people and destroy things, Harley. I like the dialogue she used between Quinn and Crane. Di Meo’s art style in this book was uniquely fantastic and fit the narrative perfectly.
VERDICT
If you are a fan of Harley Quinn this is a must-read. If you are not a fan, but you are a fan of Batman’s rogue’s gallery, it is also worth checking out.
