“This is a great set from Hot Toys because you get three droids, we always need more droid figures! However, it is disappointing in terms of accessories.”
The latest Hot Toys set has arrived giving us three new droids from The Book of Boba Fett – R5-D4, a Pit Droid, and BD-72!
THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES

The box is your usual Star Wars collectibles box design. It is a black box with a promotional picture of the figures and the Star Wars logo. For The Book of Boba Fett figures, you get an orange-sandy colored strip with additional promotional pictures.
It is a set so you get three figures but in terms of accessories, you get almost nothing. The accessories you get are solely for R5-D4. Honestly, I would have liked for them to include some tools for the Pit Droid or a small crate for him to carry. You get two styles of antennas, a bad motivator, a hologram projector, and a restraining bolt. That bolt works with a magnet.
R5-D4

First R5-D4, it’s the second astromech droid we get from Hot Toys. It uses the same mold except for the dome, it’s a new sculpt. Even though the body is the same, you can’t open all the parts here. There are only some parts of the dome that can be opened to insert the motivator and the projector. It’s a bit disappointing on that side but then again, they didn’t include that much of accessories for our droid. So that means no jetpack thrusters or anything. It’s as simple as it gets. Yes, you will tell me that we don’t see him using any of these in The Book of Boba Fett but sometimes Hot Toys include accessories that we don’t necessarily see the character using on screen, for example, the holograms from special edition figures. Here, it would just have been a re-use of accessories from R2-D2.
Nevertheless, they have done a great job recreating R5, there are a lot of details. I also love the weathering and the dirt effect. It feels realistic. In terms of articulation, you can move the dome, the legs, and the center leg can be pulled down or retracted.
THE PIT DROID

Next is the Pit Droid, I would have never guessed Hot Toys would make one but I am so happy they did! The promotional pictures teased other Pit Droids, I do hope we get to see them one day, maybe with a Peli Motto figure, who knows? Like R5, this one has a nice weathering. It’s a beautiful figure.
The antennas don’t move, they are sculpted on the head. They put a transparent plastic lens on the eye, which looks good! In terms of articulation, you can move the head, and the arms, he has articulated fingers and you can also move the legs. It’s a fully articulated figure!
BD-72

Finally, BD-72, I am happy we are getting a BD droid. I don’t know if we will ever get a Cal Kestis figure but at least, we have a BD! This droid is so cute. Same as R5 and the Pit Droid, Hot Toys has done a good job on the weathering. It may be a small droid but it is highly detailed. Like the Pit Droid, they used a transparent plastic lens for the eye, so it looks realistic. This one is articulated too, you can move the head and the legs.
