James Gunn casts Wendell Pierce as the DCU’s new Perry White in the newly retitled SUPERMAN movie
Great Ceasar’s ghost! After announcing that the newly retitled SUPERMAN movie was in production, James Gunn continues adding to his already stacked cast. The film already boasts the talents of David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nathan Fillion stars as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Isabela Merced will star as Hawkgirl with Anthony Carrigan bringing Metamorpho to life. It was recently announced that Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Superman’s arch nemesis Lex Luthor. And finally, Gunn has turned to Skyler Gisondo, and Sara Sampaio, to bring Jimmy Olsen, and Eve Teschmacher to life. But now, we are hearing that Gunn has found his Perry White.
Several actors have brought the Daily Planet’s Editor to life over the years. Jackie Cooper kept the presses running in Christopher Reeves’ Superman movies before Frank Langella took over the role in Superman Returns. And most recently, Laurence Fishburne was hot of the press in the Zack Snyder universe.

PERRY WHITE
Today, we add a new name to the small fraternity of actors associated with the role because Wendell Pierce has been cast by James Gunn. Best known for his work on The Wire, and Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, the actor now joins the DCU as The Daily Planet’s new editor-in-chief. According to THR, the actor has signed on the dotted line and will assume the role of the Planet’s head honcho moving forward.

SUPER SCORE
Additionally, the director has officially appointed his long-time collaborator John Murphy as the film’s composer. Murphy previously worked with Gunn on Guardians Vol, 3 and The Suicide Squad. But now, the composer is prolonging his stay in the DC Universe by tackling the daunting task of creating a theme for the Man of Steel.
John Murphy now joins the small fraternity of musicians who have crafted a big-screen Superman soundtrack. John Williams famously set the bar high with his iconic soundtrack for SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE. Alexander Courage and Ken Thorne followed up with variations with their scores for Superman II, III, and The Quest for Peace. John Ottman resurrected Williams’ masterwork when he crafted a superbly nostalgic score for Superman Returns. And finally, Hans Zimmer changed the formula to deliver a suitably strong soundtrack for Man of Steel.
James Gunn’s SUPERMAN will be released on July 11, 2025.
