The Future Of The Force team weighs in on the casting of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebonics Moss-Bacharach in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four
On Valentine’s Day Marvel gifted us all the much-anticipated casting news for THE FANTASTIC FOUR. Fans have long been speculating who would take on the roles of Marvel’s first family. After years of speculation, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebonics Moss-Bacharach were announced. This is the third time we’ve seen actors take on these roles on the big screen, so what does the Future of the Force team make of the casting?

The surprise casting announcement caused quite the Valentine’s Day stir, after months of intense speculation and years of fan castings. I fan cast Emily Blunt and John Krasinski a good few years ago when they looked like the ideal casting choice. And after getting a brief glimpse of Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I still stand by that casting decision as a brilliant choice. But it was to be a one-time movie appearance it would seem.
Taking center stage for the upcoming movie is Vanessa Kirby, a wonderful choice for Sue Storm. Sue is the predicted lead of the film, a change from the previous movie adaptations. This is especially exciting considering she is the most powerful of the four. I am extremely happy with this choice.
Joseph Quinn, as Human Torch, is also a great choice. His performance in Stranger Things showcases his ability to bring whimsy to tense situations. He is sure to deliver a performance that captures the fan’s attention. I’m sure he’ll be the best one-liners. Ebonics Moss-Bacharach has the challenge of bringing The Thing to life, a challenging role to master. I think the success of Moss-Bacharach lies in the depiction of this character, the writing, and the general look. Let’s hope he is not just CGI’d over.
The excitement I felt after seeing the first three names died out a little when I saw Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic. To me this screens ‘he’s popular in Hollywood right now’ rather than ‘he’s best for the job.’ Gone are the days when Marvel picked unknown or out-of-favor actors to don lead roles. Pascal is a great actor, I’m not denying, but is he right for this role? He is also 13 years older than Kirby, which I have an issue with. We always cast younger women to play love interests, they should have been the same age. Overall, I love the casting but remain on the fence in regards to Pascal.

Dropping the casting news on Valentine’s Day with that concept art was a great idea. We had all been waiting for this news.
Pedro Pascal had been rumored to be in talks for the role of Reed Richards for quite some time. So I’m extremely happy to finally see his casting confirmed! I can imagine him as Reed Richard. I think he will be perfect for this role. For Pedro alone, The Fantastic Four is now my most anticipated MCU film.
I think Vanessa Kirby is a good casting choice for Sue Storm. I think she and Pascal will have a sweet on-screen chemistry, I am really excited to see them interact. Joseph Quinn was not who I had in mind for Johnny Storm but I can see why he was cast for the role. Having watched Stranger Things, I can see the potential here. As for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, I didn’t expect him for Ben Grimm either but I think he will be great in the role.

Casting Marvel’s first family was always going to be an uphill battle, but Marvel just gave itself an uphill challenge. On the surface, this casting looks like a masterstroke by Marvel. Vanessa Kirby has expressed her fondness for Sue Storm and pinned her colors to the mast back on the promotional campaign for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING by expressing her desire to play her in the MCU. Joseph Quinn has been on a whirlwind rise to stardom since his breakout performance in STRANGER THINGS and is perfect casting. Ebon Moss-Bachrach has delivered masterful performances in his recent spells in ANDOR and THE BEAR. And finally, Pedro Pascal has cemented his legendary status in literally everything!!
But, is Pascal’s casting a risk for Marvel Studios? The actor is one of Hollywood’s hottest commodities at the moment. And with him already attached to multiple movies, a second season of THE LAST OF US, and another season of THE MANDALORIAN and THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU movie; the star’s calendar is packed. So what does that mean for Marvel Studios? Can the studio rely on Pascal for multiple movies over ten years?

PEDRO FANTASTIC
It stands within reason that Marvel will follow up on THE FANTASTIC FOUR with appearances for the first family in both upcoming AVENGERS movies. Plus, fans will be expecting at least one F4 sequel over the next decade. But can Pascal’s schedule truly allow for that kind of commitment? It seems like a tough ask. Pascal will likely first shoot Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us before stretching into shape to play Richards. But with The Mandalorian & Grogu expected to begin filming before the year’s out, could this mean that Din Djarin will spend the majority of the movie without revealing his chiseled good looks?
But what is bad news for Star Wars is good news for Marvel. Having Pascal limited to just vocal commitments, his time in the studio will be vastly reduced. This is a shoo-in to free up time for him to slip into the blue tights as Mr. Fantastic. But it will be a tough ask to maintain this workload given his other commitments.

RELEASE
Marvel Studios’s THE FANTASTIC FOUR will bring their superhero feats to cinemas on July 25, 2025. The date was initially earmarked for THE THUNDERBOLTS – but this is Marvel we’re talking about and the slate has shifted again.
Who the superhero quartet will be facing off against in their debut movie remains to be seen. Traditionally, their arch nemesis is Victor Von Doom – one of the most influential villains in the entire Marvel Universe. And his arrival has been rumored for some time. But until word reaches us from the hallowed halls at Marvel, all we can do is hope. But that is more than enough to have us licking our lips in anticipation and speculating for months to come.
Do you think Marvel is taking a chance by casting Pedro Pascal? Do you agree with our team? Sound off in the comments below.
