Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Andy Serkis are returning to the Shire for The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.
It has been announced that Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Andy Serkis will return to create two new Lord of the Rings movies in partnership with Warner Bros. The latest films will tell the story of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which will feature Andy Serkis both as an actor reprising his role as Gollum and as the director of the movie. This is an exciting development for franchise fans and promises to be a thrilling addition to the series.
Warner Bros has confirmed that Peter Jackson will return to produce both movies, whereas Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will re-team to write the screenplay. The studio hopes that by bringing back Jackson and his experienced crew, they will be able to maintain the same quality level achieved in the original trilogy.

RETURN TO THE SHIRE
“For over two-decades, moviegoers have embraced the Lord of the Rings film trilogy because of the undeniable devotion Peter, Fran and Philippa have shown towards protecting the legacy of Tolkien’s works, and to ensure audiences could experience the incredible world he created in a way that honors his literary vision. We are honored they have agreed be our partners on these two new films. With Andy coming aboard to direct Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum(*WT), we continue an important commitment to excellence that is a true hallmark of how we all want to venture ahead and further contribute to the Lord of the Rings cinematic history.”
THE DREAM TEAM
This is fantastic news. Although the franchise has been revived with the Prime Video series “The Rings of Power,” it has received mixed reactions from fans. Despite this, Warner Bros is moving forward with two new releases. Along with “The Hunt For Gollum,” the studio is also releasing an animated feature film called “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” produced by Phillipa Boyens, in cinemas by Christmas this year.
Warner Bros has gained instant credibility by appointing the creative team behind both live-action trilogies, given the negative reviews that The Rings of Power has received. Many fans are fiercely devoted to Peter Jackson’s magnum opus, and they will be delighted with his appointment and Andy Serkis’s slipping back into the motion capture suit. Serkis’ pioneering work on the “Rings” trilogy catapulted the art of motion capture into the limelight and helped redefine modern-day special effects. So, fans will be desperate to get their first look at him taking over the director’s chair.

RELEASE
At present, Warner Bros has not yet confirmed the expected release date for their upcoming project. Although a tentative timeframe of 2026 was mentioned, the studio has not made any official announcements yet. However, with several new projects related to the Lord of the Rings franchise in development, fans of the IP can look forward to an abundance of exciting content in the coming years.
