Godzilla x Kong The New Empire

This week on The Official Chart, Dune gets blown off course, and its re-entry city, leaving Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire to rule!

Welcome to The Official Film Chart.

THE UK TOP TEN

This week, we can say it is a re-entry city. One single new entry arrives alongside four re-entries into the placings. We have to lose 5 of last week’s top ten titles. These are Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, The Crow, The Iron Claw, Bob Marley: One Love, and Oppenheimer. But what is occupying the top spot this week? Is our single new entry a new chart-topper? Has one of our re-entries come back to take the crown? Or is it a case of no change at the top? Let’s take a ‘Titan’ ic look at this week’s top ten.

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE ENTERS AT THE TOP!

A brand-new entry smashes in at Number 1 on this week’s Official Film Chart. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire makes a chart-topping debut, following in the very large footsteps of its predecessor, Godzilla vs Kong, which spent four weeks at the top in 2021. In The New Empire, the two ancient titans clash with a colossal deadly threat hidden within our world, threatening the existence of all species. (Read our review here.)

WILL THE CHART GET SOME BITE NEXT WEEK?

So, the Titans have smashed the rest of the top ten into the ground this week. Next week though, the chart could get some bite. This week’s new arrival on PVOD is the horror movie Abigail. The film follows a group of kidnappers who capture the daughter of a powerful underworld figure and demand $50 million for her release, unaware of something sinister. It stars Alisha Weir as Abigail, alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito. The film deserved a better fate at the box office than it got as it is one of the most enjoyable films of the year so far. (Read our review here.) If you need some convincing, take a look at an eight-minute preview here.

Will the little monster take a bite out of the Titans next week and claim the top spot? She just may do, but we won’t find out for another seven days. So, until next week…

Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
