TV Review | My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Episode 5

“This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is another fun one. It ends up taking the series in an unexpected direction.”

Just like that, we are already halfway through season 2 of My Adventures with Superman! A new episode premieres this Saturday on Adult Swim and on Max the following day.

METROPOLIS’ MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR

Last week’s episode explored the father-daughter relationship between Lois Lane and the General. This time, Lois is facing another problem as Superman has been selected for Metropolis’ most eligible bachelor contest. Her relationship with Clark has seen some small bumps in recent episodes. It’s little things that don’t seem that important and don’t appear as problems at first. But, once it starts piling up that’s when it becomes troubles. This is what we are seeing with Lois and Clark. This contest makes Lois questions her place with Superman. In fact, this is a turning point for what their relationship will be moving forward.

Moreover, this episode is mostly a fun one. After all, Superman being part of a bachelor contest is a perfect ground for comedy, especially for an anime style series like this one. I really like the interactions Lois has with Cat Grant. She tries to hide her true relationship with Superman as Cat tries to figure out who he dates. They’re definitely on a different page but each one believes the contrary. So, this is quite funny to see. Plus, seeing Superman playing bachelor is actually cute.

THE OLSEN TOUR

In this episode, Jimmy gives a tour of Metropolis to a girl. Love is surely in the air for him. These are light-hearted scenes that will make you smile. I think we have all noticed since the beginning of season 2 that Jimmy is spending a lot of money, really a lot. The episodes definitely insist on him spending a lot. So, this begs the question, will Jimmy have any money left by the end of the season? It sounds like a possibility and something the season is setting up. All the more, since we don’t see him earning anything back. Anyway, Jimmy Olsen has a lot of sweet scenes in this episode. This gives him a nice break after the disaster he faced in the previous episode because of Lex Luthor.

AN UNEXPECTED TURN

Overall, this is my least favourite episode of season 2. It’s still pretty good, though. In fact, this episode sends the series in an unexpected direction. It makes me really excited to see where this is all going next. My Adventure with Superman has constantly proven to be a series with compelling and clever storytelling. It excels at exploring the iconic superhero through a fresh new take while still being faithful to who Superman is. Trying things differently is refreshing to see. This means that as the audience even though we know Superman’s story, we don’t know what’s going to happen here. It keeps surprising us in all the right ways.

This week’s episode even features a different version of the end credits. It’s one that mirrors the ending. This series has cool credits but they’re taking them to the next level as they’re influenced by the story itself. It’s a smart way to keep your audience watching the credits.
