Leslye Headland’s STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE presents an array of intriguing topics, and one of the highlights is Michael Abels’s captivating new musical score. Crafting music for the expansive Star Wars universe is no easy feat, but Abels has embraced the challenge, delivering a truly outstanding soundtrack that stands alongside the work of legendary composer John Williams. Fans can now fully immerse themselves in Abels’ musical mastery, as the composer’s score from the first four episodes has been officially released for everyone to enjoy.
Aside from dropping a selection of tracks on YouTube, the entire score is now available on Amazon, Spotify, Apple, and other platforms. Are you eager to listen? Check out the track below!
ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK
Michael Abels notes “The instrumentation of the score is classic orchestral with 21st-century innovations. The multi-cultural percussion is live and virtual with heavy use of Taiko drums. Some of the wind instruments are also virtual, to achieve a sound that is of this world and beyond. Sonic textures and processed effects were incorporated to create terrifying musical moments, giving those sounds an organic quality, rather than electronic. Voices are a crucial element with a limited use of a large choir, but throughout the score, there is a featured group of diverse female voices representing the twins’ home planet and the culture in which they were raised.”

REVIEW
In my THREE-STAR review, I said that the soundtrack for the series is an orchestral triumph. Franchise newcomer Michael Abels has delivered a suitably enjoyable score for this series. Although the familiar Force themes aren’t used in the opening episodes, the soundtrack fits the show’s tone well. The essence of John Williams lingers in the background as these new themes come to the fore. But like Kevin Kiner before him, Abels excels and produces a score that will resonate with legions of fans. Producing music for the GFFA is often daunting, but Abels has risen to the challenge here, and I can only commend him on his efforts thus far.
