At the Edinburgh TV Festival, Prime Video released a series of announcements on upcoming titles The Assassin, Last One Laughing UK, and The Grand Tour: One for the Road.

Six New Series Regulars Announced for The Girlfriend
THE ASSASSIN
Prime Video will launch writing duo Harry and Jack Williams’ brand new drama series The Assassin in the UK & Ireland. The series is produced by award-winning production company Two Brothers Pictures (The Tourist, Boat Story, Fleabag). In association with ZDF who is the German co-production partner. All3Media International, and Stan in Australia.
Starring in the 6×60” series are Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Scoop) and Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) who each serve as Executive Producers. With Gina Gershon (Riverdale, New Amsterdam). Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist, Baby Reindeer). Jack Davenport (The Morning Show, Pirates of the Caribbean). Alan Dale (Dynasty, Lost). Gerald Kyd (The Swarm, The Split). Devon Terrell (Totally Completely Fine, Cursed). Richard Dormer (Blue Lights, Game of Thrones) and David Dencik (The Ipcress File, No Time To Die). Further cast will be announced in due course.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Secluded on a remote Greek island, retired assassin Julie (Keeley Hawes) has a somewhat thorny reunion with her estranged son, Edward (Freddie Highmore), visiting from England. Armed with questions about new information on his paternity, Edward battles to find the right time to speak to his frustratingly distant mother. But, when the moment finally presents itself, things take a deadly turn as Julie’s dangerous past catches up with her. And they are forced to flee the island and go on the run together.
Edward’s quest for truth clashes with Julie’s secrecy whilst they are forced to work together in a fight for survival. Testing their dysfunctional relationship to its limits. Amid uncovering a dark conspiracy they believe to be their only threat, a greater danger emerges that will destroy their relationship entirely. In a race against time, Julie fights to save Edward and salvage their relationship as past and present collide in a showdown across the globe…
The Assassin is a Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company) production for Prime Video. In association with All3Media International. ZDF and Stan. LAST ONE LAUGHING: UK
Prime Video will launch a UK version of the international hit format, Last One Laughing. Which will be hosted by the award-winning comedian, television presenter and writer, Jimmy Carr. The series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide in 2025.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Famous for his dark humour, one-liners and THAT laugh, Jimmy Carr challenges 10 of Britain’s funniest comics to spend the day together without so much as cracking a smile. Over the course of the series, they will use every ounce of their comedic talents to try and break their opponents without cracking up themselves. And it’s not just their rivals they need to watch out for. The program is brimming with comedic guest appearances, innovative format changes, and unexpected delights, all crafted to coax smiles from the participants and uproarious laughter from the audience. The rules are simple. Laugh and you’re out. It’s a stellar lineup of British comedy talent as you’ve never seen them before. But who will be crowned the inaugural winner of Last One Laughing UK?
Last One Laughing UK is the latest adaptation of the successful Amazon Original series from Japan entitled Documental. Created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo, where Matsumoto leads 10 comedians betting their own money in an anything-goes “battle of laughter behind closed doors.” The fan-favourite Last One Laughing format became the most-watched title of all time on Prime Video in France, Germany and Italy. And had hugely successful local versions in over 20 territories. Local celebrity hosts include Graham Norton (Ireland). Jay Baruchel (Canada). Eugenio Derbez (Mexico). Fedez (Italy). THE GRAND TOUR: ONE FOR THE ROAD
The first look and launch date were revealed for the final episode of The Grand Tour: One for the Road filmed in Zimbabwe. Including a teaser and first-look images. The final episode of The Grand Tour, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, will launch exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories on 13th September 2024.
In their last adventure, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May ignore the instructions of Mr Wilman and head to Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own. A Lancia Montecarlo. A Ford Capri 3-litre. And a Triumph Stag, for a stunning road trip through beautiful and sometimes challenging landscapes. Leading to an emotional ending on a strangely familiar island.
THE GIRLFRIEND
The series adaptation of Michelle Frances’ novel The Girlfriend casts Tanya Moodie (Isabella). Shalom Brune-Franklin (Brigitte). Anna Chancellor (Lilith). Karen Henthorn (Tracey). Leo Suter (Nicholas) and Francesca Corney (Millie) as series regulars. Along with the previously announced cast Robin Wright (Laura). Olivia Cooke (Cherry). Laurie Davidson (Daniel). And Waleed Zuaiter (Howard).

ABOUT THE SERIES
The Girlfriend is based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name. Laura (Robin Wright) wants for nothing. She has a glittering career, a loving husband, and, above all, she has Daniel, her precious only son. When Daniel brings home Cherry (Olivia Cooke), Laura’s seemingly perfect life is shattered. The girlfriend who changes everything. After an uncomfortable first meeting, Laura grows convinced that Cherry isn’t who she says she is. Although invisible to others, Laura will not stand idly by and allow Daniel to be deceived. She’ll do anything to protect him. As things go from bad to deadly, the question is, Is Cherry a manipulative social climber? Or is Laura paranoid and possessive? The truth is a matter of perspective…
