Husband. Father. Fighter. Hero. It is time to take to the skies with the trailer for Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is landing in UK cinemas. In 1978, we were told we would believe a man could fly. They were right. With the release of Superman-The Movie, we were all astounded by what we saw on the big screen. One could easily argue that the film, directed with care by Richard Donner and featuring Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman, stands as the finest superhero movie ever produced. But it was the casting of Christopher Reeve as the Man Of Steel that grabbed our attention, our love, and our hearts.
It’s been almost twenty years since the actor passed away. The tragedy of the horse riding accident that left him paralyzed and his untimely early passing will never leave us. The bravery he showed as he tried to find a cure for his paralysis. His fundraising efforts and the courage he showed in accepting the inevitable will never leave us.
SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY
This year, coinciding with what would have been the actor’s 72nd birthday, a documentary chronicling the star’s life will be released, aptly titled “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.” Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film will show the world of Reeve’s life following his horse riding accident that left him paralyzed—and becoming an activist for disability rights. The film, written by Ettedgui and produced by Robert Ford, Lizzie Gillett, and Bonhôte, is set for a limited screening in the United States on September 21st. An encore presentation will occur on September 25th, coinciding with Reeve’s 72nd birthday. There is scope for a full release afterward. In the United Kingdom, the film will open on November 1st. The trailer for the film has taken to the skies. Let’s believe that a man can fly all over again.
THOUGHTS
The film will be tough to watch without expressing an outpouring of emotion. But it will also pay tribute to a man who inspired so many worldwide through his acting and his incredible courage in the face of adversity. With the contributions of Christopher and Dana Reeves’ children, the revelation of things we didn’t know until now, and the contributions of some of Hollywood’s finest actors and actresses, the film looks to be a fitting tribute to not only the actor’s legacy as Superman but also a tribute to the triumph of the human spirit. Tissues will almost certainly be a necessity during and after the film.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will be screened in the United States in September. It will open in the UK on November 1st.
