Experience the captivating world of The Rings of Power in its second season. Witness outstanding production, engaging writing, and phenomenal acting that elevate this Middle-Earth series.
Two years ago, when The Rings of Power came out on Prime Video, I was so pleased to be on another incredible journey in Middle-Earth. While it was a little slow in some areas and nowhere near perfect, from the first episode onward, it was evident that this would be a series made with care and a deep appreciation for the lore that Tolkien had created. Now, we’re six episodes into the second season of The Rings of Power, and it’s apparent that the creators have heard the criticism. They have taken them to heart and created a second season that is far more entertaining.

RETURN TO MIDDLE-EARTH
From the first episode onward, The Rings of Power has been a fascinating spectacle of outstanding production and costume design, engaging writing, palpable stakes, and phenomenal acting that has elevated this season in many ways. Of course, one of the highlights of this season has been Charlie Vickers’ portrayal of Sauron.
Instead of being the type of mustache-twirling antagonist who comes across as a bit cartoonish, Vickers delivers a nuanced performance as he portrays the emissary of the Valar, Annatar, who was seemingly sent to Celebrimbor to ensure the safety of Middle-Earth. Since the season’s second episode, Vickers slowly brings Sauron’s genuinely evil nature further into the limelight as his patience with Celebrimbor grows thin.
In the latest episode, we see Sauron’s mental hold on Celebrimbor at his strongest yet while simultaneously seeing Sauron gleefully await the attack on the beautiful elven city from Adar’s forces. Seeing Sauron’s deceptive powers on full display this season is fascinating and terrifying. Again, it shows how brave Frodo was to embark on a perilous journey to defeat Sauron.

GREAT PERFORMANCES
Speaking of other great performances, I want to highlight a few standout characters and moments throughout the season. Charles Edwards’ portrayal of the wise smith Celebrimbor has been one of the best performances in Tolkien’s adaptations. Watching how he’s slowly begun to crumble mentally over the past few episodes has been saddening. Still, it’s a testament to Edwards’ incredible ability to show how powerful Sauron’s corruption is.
And so many other actors did an incredible job making this season even better than I could’ve ever hoped. Sam Hazeldine’s Adar has been utterly remarkable in replacing Joseph Mawle as the morally grey Uruk leader of the Orcs. Like Mawle, his presence makes every scene he inhabits better. His dynamic with Galadriel is undoubtedly one of the pleasant surprises of this season. Robert Aramayo’s Elrond and Owain Arthur’s Prince Durin have remained standouts this season, especially as they seem to be the only ones genuinely impervious to Sauron’s corruption.

MORFYDD CLARK
Morfydd Clark continues to give an arresting performance as Galadriel as she deals with her mistakes in essentially revitalizing Sauron while continuing to believe she alone can stop him. Spoiler alert: she can’t. Cynthia Addai-Robinson’s portrayal of the blinded Queen MÃriel has been memorable this season. She’s regal, wise, strong, and beautiful, and we’ve even seen her a little vulnerable as she embraces the fact that she loves Elendil.
Speaking of Elendil, Lloyd Owen’s performance as the future King of Gondor has been phenomenal. He has wholly validated why he’s considered one of the greatest mortal heroes in Middle-Earth lore, and I can’t wait to see his journey continue.

COMPELLING NARRATIVES
Regarding the story, we’re about to charge full steam ahead into the Sacking of Eregion, which has always been one of the more fascinating moments in Middle-Earth lore. It’s the highly anticipated battle promoted by the show’s creators, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, for its grandeur and epic nature. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s definitely going to meet the expectations. To say I’m excited for the next episode is an understatement. Especially since it seems it will be the episode in which Celebrimbor finally realizes that the elf, Annatar, is Sauron.
I am thrilled that the second season is of such high quality, and I’m ecstatic about what’s in store for the third season.
