Based on the short story and directed by Osgood Perkins, the movie adaptation of The Monkey will swing into cinemas. Watch the new teaser here.
When I was a child, I used to suffer from nightmares about monkeys. I would dream almost every night that they were coming to get me. My fear got so bad that when I was given a large stuffed monkey, I screamed at it. Burst into tears and refused to touch or go near it. The reason behind this fear? Weirdly, as I love the movie now, was because the original 1933 King Kong scared the life out of me. It was this classic movie that led to my fear of monkeys. This wasn’t helped by watching the Planet Of The Apes movies and TV show that were shown on TV. Also, I was petrified about the chimpanzees in the adverts for a particular blend of Tea. Thankfully, by the time I reached double figures in age, the fear left me once and for all.

Or has it? This fear may indeed resurface in February of next year. Black Bear has launched a new trailer & artwork for director Osgood Perkins’ next film, THE MONKEY, starring Theo James, Tatiana Maslany and Elijah Wood.  The film will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on February 21, 2025. It is an adaptation of the 1980 short story by Stephen King, the master of horror.
The movie comes hot on the heels of the huge success of Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs, also released by Black Bear. Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, hit cinemas in July of this year and has taken audiences and critics by storm. Becoming the UK’s highest-grossing independent horror of the last decade. (Read our review here.)
THE PREMISE
After stumbling upon their father’s vintage toy monkey in the attic, twin brothers Hal and Bill witness a string of horrifying deaths unfolding around them. In an attempt to leave the haunting behind, the brothers opt to discard the monkey and pursue separate paths over time. However, when the inexplicable deaths resurface, the brothers are compelled to reconcile and embark on a mission to permanently eliminate the cursed toy.
THE NEW POSTER

Those of us who have read the short story. Knowing what entails can only hope that the film does the story justice. Those who know nothing about it are advised to go into the film clean. To get what hopefully will be the full experience. If done right, this could send the audience home after a really good scare or so. With Osgood Perkins at the helm, I’m confident that he will knock it out of the park.
The Monkey will bang his drum and scare us all when he arrives on February 21st, 2025.
