“Skeleton Crew delivers a satisfying finale bringing action to At Attin. From start to finish, this has been an incredibly fun series with compelling characters and this episode brings closure to the story while leaving the door open for more.”

It’s time to say goodbye to Neel and his friends, today is the season finale of Skeleton Crew. Episodes are released weekly on Wednesdays in the UK at 2 a.m. and on Tuesdays in the US at 6 p.m. PT on Disney +.

Last week’s episode ended with a big cliffhanger so we were all waiting for that finale. And this episode picks up exactly where we left off. It brings action to At Attin as the pirates invade the planet. It’s an intense episode that also goes heavy with the feels. It keeps you on the egde of your seat most of the time. In fact, this episode has some really cool speeder chase sequences.

Moreover, since it’s a finale, it delivers answers. Answers about At Attin but also about Jod Na Nawood. The Supervisor voiced by Stephen Fry is actually a droid and not a person. When you think about it, it explains a lot of things about how this planet works and we’ve seen droids everywhere for security and other purposes. However, it would have been cool to see Fry wearing a Star Wars costume. As for Jod, he reveals where he came from. A Jedi did find him when he was a kid, telling him he had potential. Considering what he says, this had to be after Order 66, thus making Jod some sort of Bokken Jedi as called by Baylan Skoll. Though, Jod didn’t follow the Jedi path and went the pirates way instead.

A SATISFYING FINALE

This finale brings closure to the story – At Attin is free and no longer hidden from the galaxy, plus the pirates are defeated. At the same time, it also leaves the door open for more. That final shot of Wim indicates, that there is a story that could be told with him in another season. Jod Na Nawood is also still alive and not in custody, we can still see him show up in another project. I really love this character, so I hope it’s not the last we see of him. After showing his true face in the previous episode, the story still presents him as the big villain but it’s also nuanced. You can still see some hints that behind his greed, there is still someone who hurts. He did care about the kids.

Speaking of the kids, they all play their role to save At Attin so do Wim’s father and Fern’s mother. Each and everyone one of them do something that helps their planet to be free. The kids have learned from their journey into the galaxy. They get to used what they have learned and put into practice. Furthermore, Wim’s father has a hero moment that will make you go “yes, he’s a cool dad after all.” It goes without saying that this whole episode just like the previous ones is visually stunning. There are so many incredible shots and I will say it again but the ships they look so real. It’s something that has really impressed me, it’s how good the ships look.

THE NEW REPUBLIC

Moreover, what we have seen before comes into play during the finale. Indeed, Kh’ymm and the New Republic returns. With The Mandalorian season 3, we got to see Y-Wings at the Adelphi base and in the Ahsoka series, they brought back A-Wings. Skeleton Crew is bringing back B-Wings and for the first time in live-action, we get to see them using their big weapon like in Star Wars Rebels. This is a pinch me moment. Undoubtedly, it’s one of the highlights of this episode. B-Wings in action and a lot of X-Wings fighting the pirates, I can’t say no to more New Republic action. A CR90 corvette even makes a small appearance.

The New Republic only comes at the end to save the day but them coming here has a big significance. If you remember, in The Mandalorian season 3, the New Republic refused to help Nevarro because it wasn’t part of the Republic. But, At Attin was always part of the Republic, it’s just that it was hidden. Plus, this will certainly be of help to have that many credits!

VERDICT

Skeleton Crew delivers a satisfying finale bringing action to At Attin. From start to finish, this has been an incredibly fun series with compelling characters and this episode brings closure to the story while leaving the door open for more.
