Dreamworks Animation Drops The First Teaser For Shrek 5

Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are back for Shrek 5. Watch the first teaser here.

The Ogre is back! Dreamworks Animation has finally unveiled our first glimpse of Shrek 5. This highly anticipated sequel is set to hit theaters in December 2026, but until now, details about the project have been few and far between. Fortunately, that’s about to change. Today, the studio released the first teaser for the film, offering fans a sneak peek at the fresh animation style that will bring this beloved character back to life.

Shrek and Donkey have received a modern update, showcasing just how much technology has advanced since their last adventure. And the results look impressive. But in a shocking twist, the teaser reveals that Zendaya will also lend her voice to Shrek’s daughter. That’s right, Zendaya is bringing her star power to the realm of Far, Far Away. But before we get out the pitchforks, scroll down and check out the teaser below.

The teaser also revealed that Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy will return for the highly anticipated sequel. With the whole gang reuniting and Zendaya joining the cast, this long-awaited installment seems poised to be another great addition to the beloved saga.

SHREK RETURNS

It’s been quite a while since we last set off on an adventure with Shrek and his friends, Donkey and Fiona. The most recent addition to the series, Shrek Forever After, hit theaters in 2010. While this film didn’t quite stack up financially against its earlier counterparts, the franchise has continued to hold a special place in the hearts of its loyal fans. Despite the absence of the beloved Ogre, the past few years have seen the release of two Puss In Boots movies. The most recent film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, was a remarkable hit in 2022, raking in a staggering $481 million at the global box office. The film’s success demonstrated that the fan appetite for the franchise is still as robust as ever.

The movie’s release timing couldn’t be better. In the past few years, Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz have noticeably stepped away from the public eye. However, Diaz recently came out of retirement for Netflix’s comedy Back In Action. Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy has stayed in the spotlight with successful films such as Candy Cane Lane, Coming 2 America, and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Murphy recently teased that following Shrek 5, his character Donkey is set for his spinoff movie. So it would seem that Shrek and his pals are back and here to stay.

RELEASE

Sadly, little is known about the plot of the film. But fans can look forward to another glorious romp in the swamp with the all-star cast returning for another outing. The beloved animated franchises Kung Fu Panda and Inside Out made triumphant comebacks with successful sequels, proving that there is a strong appetite for revisiting familiar characters and worlds. But is the world ready for new adventures in the swamp? Only time will tell. Either way, we’ll be there to cover it.

Shrek 5 will take us back to the land far, far away on December 23rd, 2026.
