SHREK RETURNS
It has been quite some time since we last embarked on an adventure with Shrek and his friends, Donkey and Fiona. The last installment in the series, Shrek Forever After, was released in 2010. Although the movie didn’t perform as well financially as its predecessors, the franchise’s fans have remained devoted. Despite the absence of the beloved Ogre, the past few years have seen the release of two Puss In Boots movies. The most recent film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, was a remarkable hit in 2022, raking in a staggering $481 million at the global box office. The film’s success demonstrated that the fan appetite for the franchise is still as robust as ever.
The movie’s release timing couldn’t be better. In the past few years, Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz have noticeably stepped away from the public eye. However, Diaz recently came out of retirement for Netflix’s comedy Back In Action. Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy has stayed in the spotlight with successful films such as Candy Cane Lane, Coming 2 America, and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Murphy recently teased that following Shrek 5, his character Donkey is set for his spinoff movie. So it would seem that Shrek and his pals are back and here to stay.

RELEASE
Sadly, little is known about the plot of the film. But fans can look forward to another glorious romp in the swamp with the all-star cast returning for another outing. The beloved animated franchises Kung Fu Panda and Inside Out made triumphant comebacks with successful sequels, proving that there is a strong appetite for revisiting familiar characters and worlds. But is the world ready for new adventures in the swamp? Only time will tell.
Shrek 5 will be released on July 1st, 2026.
