Look out, basement dwellers, because Peter Dinklage’s new spin on The Toxic Avenger has officially landed a UK release date thanks to Signature Entertainment. The studio has confirmed the film will arrive in UK and Irish cinemas on August 29, 2025. The film is based on the legendary original 1980s cult hit. This hit has gone on to spawn an enduring franchise that remains a testament to its enduring quality today.
For this new outing, the studio has turned to visionary director Macon Blair to bring its vision to life. Not wasting any time, the director has assembled a colossal ensemble cast to bring the project to life. Alongside Peter Dinklage, the film stars Jacob Tremblay (Doctor Sleep), Taylour Paige (Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F), Kevin Bacon (MaXXXine), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Julia Davis (Gavin & Stacey), and Luisa Guerreiro (Baldur’s Gate III).
The Toxic Avenger is written by Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore), Lloyd Kaufman (Mother’s Day), and Joe Ritter (The Toxic Avenger 1984). Check out the trailer below for a sample of the off-the-wall mayhem awaiting us.
SYNOPSIS
Winston Gooze is an ordinary janitor, who after a shocking accident, transforms a downtrodden janitor into a mutant vigilante. Armed with his signature mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.
Based on the original 1980s cult hit which spawned an outrageous franchise, The Toxic Avenger is produced by Kaufman and Michael Herz (Class of Nuke ‘Em High) of Troma Entertainment, and Alex Garcia (Godzilla MonsterVerse) and Mary Parent (Dune: Part One, Dune Part Two) of Legendary Pictures.

This is fantastic news. Like many fans of my generation, I had a blast with the original Toxic Avenger. So, I look forward to seeing what Macon Blair comes up with for this new take on the property. The director has assembled an impressive cast for this film. This makes it a shoo-in to shoot straight to the top of every fan’s wishlist. Given that its UK release comes on the back of Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and Fantastic Four: First Steps, the film could be the perfect palate cleanser. So get ready to end the summer in style.
