Welcome to The Official Film Chart.
THE UK TOP TEN
This week sees two titles re-enter the chart. To make way for this pairing, it’s the end of the road for Nosferatu and How to Train Your Dragon. But what is occupying the top spot this week? Grab your joysticks as we find out.
A MINECRAFT MOVIE RETURNS TO THE TOP!
A Minecraft Movie returns to the Official Film Chart summit for a third non-consecutive week. The Jared Hess-directed fantasy adventure comedy movie, based on Mojang Studios’ hit 2011 video game Minecraft, stars Jason Momoa as Garrett, Jack Black as Steve, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Emma Myers as Natalie and Sebastian Hansen as Henry.
When struggling salesman Steve breaks into a mine and discovers the Orb of Dominance and the Earth Crystal, a mysterious portal opens and pulls four characters into the Overworld; a cubic world that requires imagination in abundance if they’re to escape.
Earlier this year, A Minecraft Movie recently made Official Singles Chart history when Jack Black’s track Steve’s Lava Chicken became the shortest song ever to make the UK Top 40, at a total duration of just 34 seconds.
FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES HITS A DEAD END!
After claiming the top spot last week, horror sequel Final Destination: Bloodlines is dethroned, dropping to Number 2.
28 DAYS LATER HOLDS FIRM AT THREE!
With its sequel, 28 Years Later, taking the box office by storm, the original 28 Days Later clings onto the third spot.
BRIDGET JONES IS MAD FOR THE FOURTH SPOT!
Another non-mover this week is Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which holds the fourth spot.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 CONTINUES TO FLY!
The animated sequel, How To Train Your Dragon 2, stubbornly refuses to fly away, clinging onto the fifth spot.
THE DINOSAURS RETURN TO ROAR IN THE CHART AGAIN!
With the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth in cinemas, Jurassic World: Dominion returns to the chart, taking a bite out of the sixth place.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON DOESN’T HIDE FROM THE WORLD!
The chart domination of the franchise continues as How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World flies up two places to Number 7.
THE CHART GETS LETHAL!
Thanks to a 4K UHD release, the original Lethal Weapon returns to the chart, debuting at Number 8.
SINNERS GET NO REDEMPTION!
The Ryan Coogler hit movie, Sinners, gets no redemption this week as it falls to Number 9.
THE AMATEUR IS READY TO DEPART!
And finally, the Rami Malek-led thriller, The Amateur, is almost done as it falls to the tenth and final spot on this week’s chart.
CAN YOU HEAR THE THUNDERBOLTS*?
And that marks the end for this week’s top ten chart. However, next week the chart may get shaken up with the arrival on PVOD of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*. By now, you’ll know that the asterisk stands for The New Avengers. It ensemble cast featuring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In the film, a group of antiheroes are caught in a deadly trap and forced to work together on a dangerous mission. If you feel like sitting down with Marvel’s newest (anti) heroes, you can rent the film for £15.99 or buy it early for £19.99.
Will Thunderbolts* hit the chart with a loud bang next week, or will A Minecraft Movie manage to hold them off? You know what to do. Come back next week to see what’s hot and what’s not on the official film chart. So, until then…
Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!!
