The Superman Soundtrack is Now Available to Own

Look up! John Murphy and David Fleming’s Superman Soundtrack has emerged from Metropolis and is now available to own from all good vendors.

James Gunn’s Superman is finally swooping into cinemas tomorrow. The long-awaited relaunch of the DC Universe is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and now, fans can enjoy the score from John Murphy and David Fleming. The album features the film’s original music composed by both composers. For the soundtrack, the duo collaborated to craft an enjoyable new score, incorporating several cues from John Williams’ brilliant score from the original Superman. And it made the film all the more enjoyable. Check out the soundtrack’s artwork below.

THE SOUNDTRACK

Having seen the film, I can assure fans of the DC Universe that the symphonic masterwork of John Williams is in safe hands. John Murphy and David Fleming’s solid score features a treasure trove of new music that complements Williams’ work to perfection. Although the tonal balance feels slightly off, the new score delivers an enjoyable rollercoaster ride. But of course, no Superman film worth its salt would omit the classic theme, and I’m delighted to confirm that the duo has used Williams’ classic cues to perfection.

REVIEW

In my review of the film, I said: “James Gunn’s Superman is a blast. Although the film is marred by a chaotic, overstuffed plot, some eye-rollingly bad gimmicks, occasionally ropey CGI, and even more jarring acting, it delivers a bonanza of DC awesomeness. The film is ambitious, bold, and unapologetic. David Corenswet is impressive as the Man of Steel, but isn’t afforded the time needed to reach his full potential. Rachel Brosnahan sparkles and delivers an excellent performance as Lois Lane. And finally, Nicholas Hoult delivers an energetic but confusing performance as the new Lex Luthor.” Read my full review here.

JOHN MURPHY & DAVID FLEMING

John Murphy and David Fleming are now two of only a handful of composers to create music for a Superman movie. Hollywood icon John Williams famously composed the scores for Richard Donner’s original film. Ken Thorne arranged John Williams’ music for Superman II and Superman III, while Star Trek’s Alexander Courage composed the punchy score for Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. John Ottman took the helm to deliver a truly exceptional score for Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, and most recently, Hans Zimmer delivered a memorable soundtrack for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel

And now, John Murphy and David Fleming have crafted a soundtrack that pays homage to this beloved character. However, if you’re still undecided, WaterTower Music has uploaded the score that accompanies the opening sequence to YouTube. Get your first listen here.
