The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping adds another batch of tributes to the already impressive cast list.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping is currently in production in Europe, and Lionsgate has announced another batch of six tributes! Sky Frances has been cast as Maritte, a tribute from District 4, Tatyana Muzondo as Ringina, a tribute from District 7, and Alina Reid as Kerna, a tribute from District 9. Salimou Thiam is joining the cast as Clayton, another tribute from District 9. John Doeble will play Buck, a tribute from District 10, and Kaine Buffonge will portray Hull, a tribute from District 11.
The Lionsgate film is based on Suzanne Collins’s bestselling novel. It was published on March 18 and received wide acclaim. The book sold 1.5 million copies in its first week of release in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Notably, the 1.2 million copies sold in its first week in the U.S. are twice the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. These sales are also three times those of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
STORY
The story takes place 40 years after the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. This prequel focuses on a young Coriolanus Snow, 24 years before the events of the original tale, as led by Katniss Everdeen. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled for release in cinemas on November 20, 2026. This new prequel tells the events of the second Quarter Quell (the fiftieth Hunger Games). In this event, the fan-favourite character Haymitch Abernathy is the lead.
DIRECTION
Francis Lawrence, who directed all the films in the franchise except the first, returns to the director’s chair. Billy Ray, who co-wrote the screenplay for the first film, is also making a comeback. The producers are Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force, while Cameron MacConomy serves as an executive producer.
