Steve Gets A New Trailer-Header Image

Cillian Murphy is Steve in the upcoming Netflix movie. Get the details on the newly recorded original song from the film, Don’t Leave Too Soon.

Mercury Prize winner Little Simz has recorded a new original song, “Don’t Leave Too Soon”, to feature in the new film STEVE, starring Academy Award® winner Cillian Murphy. Simz also stars in the film as Simbi Ajikawo, alongside Tracey Ullman, Jay Lycurgo and Emily Watson. The new song “Don’t Leave Too Soon” will be released on 12th September.

The news comes after Netflix released the first official trailer, key art and 5 new stills for STEVE, the new film directed by Tim Mielants, starring Academy Award® winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer, Peaky Blinders) and introducing Jay Lycurgo (Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, I May Destroy You), in a reimagining of Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller, Shy.

Tracey Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show, Mrs. America). Simbi Ajikawo (Top Boy) and Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves, Small Things Like These) are revealed as supporting cast members.

Further cast members include Douggie McMeekin, Youssef Kerkour, Luke Ayres, Joshua J Parker, Araloyin Oshunremi, Tut Nyuot, Tom Moya, Ahmed Ismail, Joshua Barry, Archie Fisher, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Priyanga Burford, George Fouracres, Marcus Garvey, Ruby Ashbourne-Serkis and Roger Allam.

PREMISE

Set in the mid-90s, Steve reimagines Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller Shy. The film follows a pivotal day in the life of headteacher Steve (Academy Award® winner Cillian Murphy). And his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them. As Steve fights to protect the school’s integrity and impending closure, we witness him grappling with his own mental health. In parallel to Steve’s struggles, we meet Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence.
