Kevin Smith’s Cult Classic Dogma is heading back to UK & Irish cinemas in a brand new 4K restoration for its 25th anniversary.
Vertigo Releasing is thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of DOGMA to UK and Irish cinemas on 7th November in a stunning 4K restoration. This marks its 25th anniversary. Initially released in 1999, writer & director Kevin Smith unleashed this sharp, irreverent religious satire that sparked conversation. It created controversy and cult fandom around the world. Featuring an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Linda Fiorentino. Also, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, and Jason Mewes. Kevin Smith, Chris Rock, and George Carlin.
A REMASTERED 4K EDITION
In the remastered 4K edition, DOGMA (now coined DOGMA: RESURRECTED) reintroduces audiences to the story of Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon). The story centres on two banished angels who seek to exploit a theological loophole. They wish to return to Heaven. This would inadvertently nullify all of existence. Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), a reluctant abortion clinic worker, faces the challenge of stopping them. With the help of a heavenly host that includes the last descendant of Christ, a muse, a pair of prophets, and the voice of God. She navigates her mission.

ABOUT THE FILM
The film premiered Out of Competition at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. It returned to the Croisette in 2025 as part of the prestigious Cannes Classics section. The UK & Irish remaster marks the first time DOGMA will return to cinemas in decades. As well as the first time, the title will be shown in 4K format.
After a sold-out North American Q&A tour with Kevin Smith and Smodco, “DOGMA: RESURRECTED, A 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION” hit theatres in the U.S. on over 1,500 screens on June 5th. Iconic Events, View Askew Productions, and Triple Media Film made this release possible, while Goodfellas handles international sales.
KEVIN SMITH’S STATEMENT
I made Dogma in 1999 as a lapsed Catholic searching for peace with my spiritual baggage. It was the biggest, riskiest, most ambitious movie I’d made at the time and the one I’m still asked about most. Religion is a sensitive subject, but so is humour, and Dogma aimed to bring both into the same space with heart, wit, and reverence for irreverence.
Revisiting it 25 years later, I am overwhelmed by the relevance of its questions and the courage of its cast. This remastered edition is not just a restoration, it’s a resurrection. For all the fans who could not find it streaming, or who passed around bootlegs to keep the movie alive, this is for you.
