Review | The Running Man

How far would you go for a billion dollars as the final trailer for The Running Man enters the final strait? Hunt. Him. DOWN!

Hunt Him Down! On November 14th, The Running Man will return. This new version of the story is more in line with Stephen King’s original book. Glen Powell takes the role of Ben Richards with able support from William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. The film follows Ben Richards as he participates in a game show called The Running Man, in which murderous Hunters chase contestants across the world to win money. The final trailer for the film has raced in. Lace up your running shoes as we take our last look.

We’ve seen the film. We can’t share our thoughts until the UK embargo ends at 7 pm tomorrow, but keep an eye out for our review, which we will publish as soon as we are allowed.

INSIDE THE WORLD OF THE RUNNING MAN

Back in 1987, the original version of The Running Man hit cinemas. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film was loosely (and I mean loosely) based on the novel by Stephen King, written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Despite having some moments of quality and vague references to the book, the film was a vehicle for Schwarzenegger, action-packed and violent, but bore little resemblance to the story King had written.

PREMISE

In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television. A deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins. With every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public, and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favourite. And a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters but a nation addicted to watching him fall.
