The Sundance Audience Award Winner, Twinless, Is Coming To UK & Irish Cinemas

The Sundance Audience Award-winning psychological black comedy, Twinless, is coming to UK & Irish cinemas, courtesy of Park Circus.

During the pre-festival week at this year’s BFI London Film Festival, our editor, Phil Roberts, and I caught the UK premiere of the delightful psychological black comedy, Twinless. The film was a surprise to us both, something we didn’t expect. It was one of the best films of the festival and a highlight of the 40+ films we saw. While we can’t give you a full review yet, we can offer our thoughts on the movie. Phil had this to say about the film:

James Sweeney’s #Twinless is a rare gem. The film perfectly balances humour with a heartwarming and poignant storyline.

Dylan O’Brien delivers a tour-de-force performance here. This, coupled with a charming narrative, makes the film a thoroughly enjoyable surprise package. #LFF

Finally, I had this to say about the film:

James Sweeney’s #Twinless is a fantastic comedy-drama that will captivate your heart.

The sadness of love and loss is offset by some brilliant humour, added to by some superb acting prowess.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll have a brilliant time.

Today, Park Circus is delighted to announce that it will release the film in UK and Irish cinemas from 6th February 2026. Written and directed by James Sweeney (Straight Up), he also stars alongside Dylan O’Brien (Saturday Night, Caddo Lake, Ponyboi, The Outfit, The Maze Runner, Teen Wolf) and Aisling Franciosi (The Fall, Speak No Evil, God’s Creatures, Stop Motion, The Nightingale).

Twinless is about two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group and form an unlikely bromance. It won the Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic), the Audience Award, and the Special Jury Award for Best Acting in a US Dramatic for Dylan O’Brien at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

THE PREMISE

After meeting in a twin bereavement support group, Roman (Dylan O’Brien) and Dennis (James Sweeney) form an unlikely bromance. They both search for solace and an identity without their twin brothers. They soon become inseparable, but old wounds reopen. Eventually, this leads to permanent consequences for their friendship. Lauren Graham and Aisling Franciosi also star in this stirring, whip-smart, wholly original dark-comedy from breakout multi-hyphenate director James Sweeney.

The film also won Best Director at the Seattle International Film Festival and Directors to Watch at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It also won Best Narrative Feature, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Cinematography at FilmOut San Diego, US and most recently screened at the BFI London Film Festival 2025.

JAMES SWEENEY STATEMENT

James Sweeney (Director, Writer, Producer, Actor) said:

“Twinless explores themes of loneliness, identity, and forgiveness. I think: loneliness is a killer, identity is amorphous, and forgiveness is underrated. There’s a fourth theme I am omitting, but you’ll understand why later. An emotional and factual truth: I love this film and the team who carried it with me for many years. We are excited for UK and Irish audiences to have the Twinless experience. We are born alone and we die alone, but we can watch movies together… in theatres.”

David Permut and James Sweeney produced Twinless. It also stars Chris Perfetti, Francois Arnaud, Cree, and Susan Park, with Tasha Smith and Lauren Graham.

Twinless can be seen in UK and Irish cinemas from 6th February 2026. Look out for our full review, which will be published towards the end of January.
