Toph finally makes her debut on the first official poster for Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, coming to Netflix in 2026
Look out, Earthbenders, because the first official poster for Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 has emerged from Netflix. The glorious new one-sheet features our beloved heroes, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Momo, and Appa, as they continue their quest to stop the Fire Nation. But joining the party for the new season is our beloved fiery earthbender, Toph. Although the first season of the live-action adaptation of the classic animated series overlooked some key storylines from Book One, this did not lessen the show’s brilliance. With Toph joining the team in Season 2, it appears that this trend will continue.
In the classic animated adaptation, Toph didn’t join the team until midway through the second season. For the live-action adaptation, the showrunners have found a way to abreviate the plot to fit Toph into the new season, despite many of the world-building plot points being left undercooked. But this slick new approach served the first season well, so let’s hope the second season follows suit. But before we start channeling the power of the Avatar, scroll down and check out the poster below.
NEW SEASON, SAME BRILLIANT CAST
So what can we expect from the second season? As the poster suggests, the Fire Nation is once again closing in on Aang and his team, who are continuing their quest to master the elements. Their quest will take them to Ba Sing Se in the Earth Kingdom, where Aang hopes to find a teacher to help him master the art of earthbending, and it is here that we will meet Toph. But who has the acting chops to bring Toph to life in live-action?
Netflix recently announced that Miya Cech had been cast as the fiery, blind eathbender, so fans will be hoping she hits the ground running in season 2. She joins returning cast members Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Elizabeth Yu (Azula), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), Momona Tamada (Ty Lee), and Thalia Tran (Mai).
Other new additions to the cast for season 2 include Chin Han as Long Feng, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Lourdes Faberes as General Sung, and Rekha Sharma as Amita. Rounding out the new additions are Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Dolly de Leon as Lo and Li, Lily Gao as Ursa, and Madison Hu. Finally, Dichen Lachman completes the cast as Yangchen.
SEASON 3
Although season 2 is right around the corner, Netflix is eager to complete the saga and has already greenlit a third and final season. Confirmed to be joining the cast for Season 3 are Jon Jon Briones, who will play Piandao, and Tantoo Cardinal, who will play Hama. Filming for season 3 has already wrapped, so be ready for fresh updates from the Fire Nation soon.
SYNOPSIS
A live-action reimagining of the acclaimed Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows Aang, a young boy who’s the titular Avatar –– which means he’s the only one capable of mastering all four elements (air, water, fire, and earth). In Season 1, Aang wakes up after a 100-year slumber to discover he’s the only surviving airbender. The world is being threatened by the imperialistic Fire Nation, which wiped out every other airbender and is working to subjugate the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes. With the help of his newfound friends Katara, a waterbender, and her brother Sokka, Aang sets off on a journey to restore balance to this fractured world.
RELEASE
What a phenomenal first poster. The landmark first season of the series was a joy to watch. Although it was an inferior adaptation when compared to the classic animated series, there was plenty to enjoy, and Season 2 promises to build on the first season’s triumph. Perhaps the most challenging aspect to overcome is the rapid ageing of Gordon Cormier’s Aang. In the animated series, his quest to master the art of bending happened while he was twelve (or one hundred and twelve if you count the years frozen in suspended animation). However, in the time between filming seasons one and two, the actor has aged considerably and now looks as mature as his co-stars.
How the writers will explain this time gap remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure: with Toph now joining the gang for the second season, the show went from epic to unmissable, and we are ready for it.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 premieres on Netflix sometime in 2026.
