Netflix Drops Our First Look at the Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series

Look out Earth, Air, Water, and Fire Benders because Avatar: The Last Airbender will continue for two more seasons

Fans of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER have reason to rejoice. After a viral launch on the streamer, Netflix has officially renewed the property for another TWO seasons. After its launch on February 22nd, the series recorded 41.1 million views in its first 11 days. Which is a colossal return for the IP. Moving forward, the series is on track to become one of the streaming platform’s top ten most-watched shows in the first three months of its run.

The three-season arc keeps the live-action version of the property in line with its animated predecessor. The hit Nickelodeon series also ran for three seasons and featured a story spread across three books. So it’s great to see Netflix paying tribute to the beloved series and maintaining the legacy of the property.

THE SERIES

Although the series has been a monumental success for Netflix, critics are divided about its overall quality. Many reviews panned the show for its abysmal dialogue, woeful editing, and lack of heart and humor. And yet, the series has amassed legions of devoted fans that will defend it to the end. After watching the series in its entirety, I’m firmly rooted in the supporting camp. The show was effortlessly fun with bags of glorious cinematography, a killer soundtrack, and plenty of humor. So, like all things, enjoyment of the show is subjective.

Either way, entertainment is made for escapism – and what could facilitate that more than a magical journey to a mythical land where a young child must master the four elements to become a supreme being?
