MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service, and production company, has released the official trailer and artwork for Sound of Falling. This is the critically lauded second feature film from writer and director Mascha Schilinski. The film will hit cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 6 March 2026. This follows a prize-laden year in competition on the festival circuit. It was headlined by a Cannes Jury Prize win after receiving its World premiere there in May. Sound of Falling had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. It has also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. The film also won the Silver Frog award at this year’s Camerimage.
THE PREMISE
Four girls, Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s), and Lenka (2020s) each spend their youth on the same farm in northern Germany. As the home evolves over a century, echoes of the past linger in its walls. Separated by time, their lives begin to mirror one another, exposing shared secrets they have kept hidden.
Sound of Falling’s revelatory ensemble cast features Hanna Heckt (Stille Nacht, raue Nacht), Lea Drinda (Danke für nichts), Lena Urzendowsky (Cocoon), Laeni Geiseler (Smalltown Girl), Susanne Wuest (Inedia) and Luise Heyer (The Sparrow in the Chimney).
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
The film has been receiving rave reviews from critics, with notices such as:
“Cinema is too small a word for what this epic achieves in its ethereal, unnerving brilliance.” – Deadline
“Transfixing. Resembles nothing you’ve quite seen before.” – The Hollywood Reporter
★★★★★ “Masterfully directed. A must-see.” – The Times
THE ARTWORK
