Hollywood has decided to torture me with a reboot of Anaconda. This time, the film is a hybrid of action, comedy, and horror. The film’s ensemble cast features Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Selton Mello, Daniela Melchior, Thandiwe Newton, and Steve Zahn. It also features a cameo appearance from the original star, Ice Cube. It serves as a reboot to the 1997 original and is the sixth film in the franchise overall. Directed by Tom Gormican and written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, the film slithers into cinemas this Christmas. The final trailer for the film has arrived from the Amazon.
PREMISE
Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favourite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed……
THOUGHTS
Why? Hollywood, WHY? I HATE snakes. Hate them with a passion. I can’t even look at one. A drawing of one or even an animated version of one also scares me. During my visit to the reptile house at London Zoo, I found myself so startled by a cobra that reared up and looked me directly in the eye, I had to be carried out, even though it was safely behind glass. They petrify me. Years ago, I decided to be brave. I joined my brother in going to see the original Anaconda. Thankfully, only my brother and two other people were in the screen. This made me extremely scared. The CGI was laughable and unrealistic. But the use of real snakes in the film had me hiding behind my hands.
