StudioCanal Announces That Elsinore Has Begun Filming.

StudioCanal, LD Entertainment, Lucky Red, and Magnolia Mae Films announce the new movie, Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman, has started filming.

STUDIOCANAL, LD ENTERTAINMENT, LUCKY RED and MAGNOLIA MAE FILMS today announced that cameras are rolling on ELSINORE starring BAFTA winner and multi-Golden Globe nominee Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Ripley, Pressure). Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown, The Lost Daughter) joins him in this project.

BAFTA-nominated Simon Stone (The Dig) directs ELSINORE, which is based on the life of Ian Charleson. The script comes from Stephen Beresford, a BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee known for Pride. Andrea Occhipinti of Lucky Red (Il Divo, Everybody Knows) produces with Gabrielle Tana of Magnolia Mae Films (The Dig, Philomena). They are joined by Pete Shilaimon and Mickey Liddell of LD Entertainment. Furthermore, Stefano Massenzi and Carolyn Marks Blackwood join as producers.

Andrew Scott is also a producer on the powerful, deeply moving, and inspiring true story of the actor Ian Charleson. He faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London. Stephen Beresford is also an EP on the film. Ethan Silverman, the project’s creator, is deeply involved in ELSINORE.

Billie Piper (Wednesday, Scoop), reunites with Simon Stone following her award-winning performance in Yerma at The Young Vic, which resulted in her winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress. Further casting includes Johnny Flynn (Ripley, Beast), Luke Thompson (Bridgerton, Transatlantic), BAFTA and Olivier winner Monica Dolan (Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, Days Of The Bagnold Summer), Olivier winner Juliet Stevenson (Reawakening, Truly Madly Deeply,), Joe Locke (Heartstopper Forever, Agatha All Along), BAFTA winner Adeel Akhtar (Ali & Ava, Sherwood), Matthew Beard (The Testament of Ann Lee, Vienna Blood), David Dawson (My Policeman, The Last Kingdom), Kadiff Kirwan (Slow Horses, This Is Going To Hurt), Dickie Beau (What It Feels Like For A Girl, Bohemian Rhapsody) & BAFTA winner Peter Mullan (I Swear, Ozark).

BEHIND THE PRODUCTION

STUDIOCANAL is financing the film with LD pre-buying in North America. Ron Halpern, EVP Global Production, and Joe Naftalin, SVP Global Production, will oversee STUDIOCANAL. The studio will release theatrically in the UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand. Distribution in Italy will be handled by LUCKY RED. Mike Eley (The Dig) is DOP. Helen Scott (Living) is Production Designer. Mel Page (The Dig) is Costume Designer. Valerio Bonelli (Darkest Hour) is Editor. Jessica Ronane (Emma) is casting the film.

STUDIOCANAL

ELSINORE reunites STUDIOCANAL with Andrew Scott following the production of PRESSURE this year. PRESSURE opens in cinemas worldwide in 2026. It is produced and developed by STUDIOCANAL with Working Title. Most recently, Olivia Colman starred in and produced STUDIOCANAL’s WICKED LITTLE LETTERS. She also starred in PADDINGTON IN PERU for the studio. STUDIOCANAL is coming off a string of critical and commercial successes. These include PADDINGTON IN PERU, WE LIVE IN TIME, and BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY. PADDINGTON THE MUSICAL has now opened at The Savoy Theatre in London’s West End to rave reviews. Consequently, it has already extended its run to February 2027.

Elsinore is currently filming.
