The Oscar-winning movie from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is returning to screens to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Get ready to return to the Dakotas again. On March 16-18, 20th Century Studios will release New Regency’s Academy Award-winning film “The Revenant” exclusively in select IMAX theaters nationwide in celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary. The film is set for an international release across the US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. Fans can relive Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s brutal masterpiece with IMAX’s extraordinary picture and sound technology for the ultimate cinematic experience.
Released in 2015, “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, raked in more than $532 million worldwide. The film won three Academy Awards for acting (Leonardo DiCaprio), directing (Alejandro G. Iñárritu), and cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). The re-release comes as DiCaprio returns to the awards spotlight with “One Battle After Another,” securing another acting nod.
The film features a screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who also directed it, drawing inspiration from Michael Punke’s novel. Produced by Steve Golin, Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan, and Mary Parent.
THE PREMISE
The film presents a gritty 19th-century period drama-thriller centred around fur trapper Hugh Glass, a real historical figure who embarks on a perilous journey with the Rocky Mountain Fur Company. After a brutal encounter with a grizzly bear, he finds himself robbed and abandoned by his companions, forcing him to fight for survival in the wild. The film considers the nature and stresses on relationships under the duress of the wilderness, and issues of revenge and pardon via Glass’s pursuit of the man who was responsible for his hardship.
