You are not supposed to be here. Check out the creepy first trailer for Kane Parsons’ Backrooms starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve.
Look out, horror fans, because the first trailer for Kane Parsons’ Backrooms has opened a room with multiple possibilities. The project has been in development for some time, but with the film nearing its release date, A24 has dropped a teaser that ramps up the creepiness. The film is based on a series of viral videos that Parsons released on his YouTube channel, Kane Pixels. But if you were hoping for more of the same, you’re in for a shock. Parsons has taken the formula back to the drawing board to deliver something entirely new for audiences to get to grips with. And if this trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be an unsettling ride.
SYNOPSIS
A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.
BACKSTORY
In the original short, a young filmmaker’s fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an eerily yellow, empty, and maze-like office space, which may or may not be inhabited by otherworldly beings. But for this modern reimagining, the story will follow a shadowy organization called ASYNC, which, in the late 1980s, opens a portal connecting the real world to The Backrooms.

CAST & CREW
Parsons has put together an impressive cast to bring his vision to the screen. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), who head the cast. They’re joined by Mark Duplass (Creep), Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap).
A24 and Chernin Entertainment are co-financing *Backrooms*. Patino is producing the film alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps, as well as James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing the project for Atomic Monster, while Judson Scott from the company serves as executive producer.
FIRST POSTER
If the eerie first trailer isn’t enough to have your blood curdling, the first poster will only accentuate the feeling. The glossy one-sheet feels like a retro 70s throwback, featuring some dated gold-colored wallpaper. Take a look below.
