MUBI Announces The Streaming Date For Park Chan-Wook's Acclaimed Movie, No Other Choice

South Korea’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars, No Other Choice, is coming to stream exclusively on MUBI this March.

MUBI is a global distributor, streaming service, and production company. It is proud to announce that BAFTA Award-winner Park Chan-wook’s sharp, dark comedy thriller No Other Choice will stream exclusively on MUBI in the UK and Ireland. This will be available from 13 March 2026.

No Other Choice premiered at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. Then, it had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. Later, they selected it as South Korea’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. The film has received significant awards-season attention. For example, it won seven awards at South Korea’s 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards. These include Best Picture, Best Director (Park Chan-wook), Best Actress (Son Ye-Jin), Best Supporting Actor (Lee Sung-min), and Best Music.

NOMINATIONS

At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, the film earned nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Lee Byung-hun. After winning the International Audience Award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the film also received three nominations at the 35th Gotham Awards. In addition, it stood out with nominations for Outstanding Lead Performance (Lee Byung-hun) and Best Adapted Screenplay. The screenplay is by Park Chan-wook, Lee Kyoung-mi, Jahye Lee, and Don McKellar. Additionally, it was nominated for Best International Feature.

DIRECTED BY AND STARRING

No Other Choice showcases the brilliant direction of Park Chan-wook, known for his acclaimed works like The Handmaiden and Oldboy. The film features a stellar cast, headlined by Lee Byung-hun from Squid Game and Son Ye-jin, known for her role in The Last Princess. The ensemble includes talented actors such as Park Hee-soon from My Name and Lee Sung-min from The Spy Gone North. Moreover, Yeom Hye-ran from The Glory, Cha Seung-won of Believer fame, and Yoo Yeon-seok from Mr. Sunshine are also in the cast. The screenplay is by Park Chan-wook, Lee Kyoung-mi, Don McKellar, and Jahye Lee.

No Other Choice draws inspiration from Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax. The story follows Man-su, a middle-aged man who, after being unexpectedly fired from the paper company where he had worked for 25 years, embarks on an intense job hunt. Determined to secure new employment, he navigates the challenges and pressures of a suddenly uncertain future.

THE PREMISE

“If there is no opening for me, I’ll just have to get hired by creating one. I have no other choice.”

Looking for a job? When a devoted family man is abruptly fired after twenty-five years at a paper company, he takes decisive action to secure his next job: eliminating the competition for good.

Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, Oldboy) returns with the masterful and murderous No Other Choice, South Korea’s Best International Feature Film entry to the 98th Academy Awards.

Holding up an audacious mirror to the present, this Venice Film Festival hit satirises our ultramodern world without restraint: from our unsatiated material ambitions to workplace automation and the corporate rat race. Matching its twisted wit with infinite visual flair, No Other Choice coalesces into a timelessly thrilling — and thrillingly relatable — wild ride.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

The film has garnered great critical acclaim, with notices like:

★★★★★ “A masterful work of cinema. Might well be Park Chan-wook’s masterpiece.” – Time Out

★★★★★ “A deliriously entertaining masterpiece” – BBC Culture

★★★★ “No Other Choice is often wickedly good fun, with pleasing echoes of Parasite.” – The Times

We ourselves saw the film at the BFI London Film Festival, and loved it. Our editor, Phil Roberts, said this about the film:

“Park Chan-wook’s #NoOtherChoice is a wonderfully well-layered and fun thriller. Often zany and completely off the wall, the film effortlessly captures the stresses of being made redundant while slipping into the realm of outrageous fantasy.

A welcome surprise package. #LFF”

I myself had this to say about it:

“#NoOtherChoice is a wickedly amusing film that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

With emotional and winning performances, a cutting script and great comedy, the film is a winner.

Who knew paper production could be so deadly?!!

#LFF #BFI #londonfilmfestival”

No Other Choice will be streaming exclusively on MUBI on March 13th.
