Look out, Fortnite fans, because Epic Games has decreased the value of V-Bucks, giving you less credit for the same price.
Bad news, Fortnite fans. Epic Games has announced that the value of V-Bucks will decrease from March 19 across all platforms. This means you’ll get fewer V-Bucks for the same price. Epic justifies its decision by explaining that “the cost of operating Fortnite has increased significantly.” Consequently, the American company is asking players to “help us pay the bills.”So how will these changes affect our gameplay?
Sadly, the retail prices will remain the same; however, we’ll receive fewer V-Bucks than before. For instance, the classic 1,000 V-Bucks pack will now only yield 800 V-Bucks, and that’s just the start. Here’s what’s changing starting March 19:

BATTLE PASS / FORTNITE CREW PACK
What’s worse, the value of all Battle Passes and Fortnite Crew packs will also decrease. The traditional Battle Pass currently costs 1,000 V-Bucks and rewards players with 1,000 V-Bucks throughout the season. However, under the new price structure, the Battle Pass will cost 800 V-Bucks, rewarding players with 800 V-Bucks throughout the season. There are no longer V-Bucks in the Bonus Rewards of the Pass either, so the extra 500 V-Bucks earned via the Bonus system are no more.
The OG Pass will now cost 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000, the Music Pass will cost 1,200 V-Bucks instead of 1,400, and the LEGO Pass will cost 1,200 V-Bucks instead of 1,400. Finally, the V-Bucks grant in Fortnite Crew will change from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks. Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive an email with the timing and other details of this update in their region.
EPIC REWARDS
You get 20% back in Epic Rewards on purchases in Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League when they are made through the Epic Games Store or Epic’s payment system across PC, iOS, Android, and web, including the purchase of V-Bucks. That credit can be used in Fortnite, other Epic games, or on the Epic Games Store when you check out with Epic’s payment system.

VALUE FOR MONEY?
Sadly, this price restructuring sounds like it’s company-wide, so expect Rocket League prices to change as well. This will be a bitter pill for players to swallow. In a time when the prices of skins and cosmetics are on the increase, players will now receive less in-game currency for their money, making every set more expensive in the long run. The recent Solo Leveling bundle broke the record for the most expensive set in the item shop, costing 4,500 V-Bucks. If this is a sign of things to come, and with the value of V-Bucks decreasing, players might be forced to be strategic when buying new characters moving forward.
Either way, Epic Games is expecting its player base to pay more for the game’s running costs. Whether they are happy with that deal remains to be seen. But in an era when cash is king, Epic Games could be about to lose large parts of its player base.
Get ready, because the changes begin on March 19.
