The new trailer for Masters Of The Universe holds its sword aloft and utters those immortal words. Check it out here ahead of the film’s release.
“By the power of Grayskull!” Those words remind many of us of the first time we watched the classic animated series He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe on TV. We all sat and watched on Saturday mornings (and even during the week here in the UK) as He-Man battled those evil forces led by Skeletor on the planet of Eternia. We all bought the toys, we all watched the series, as well as its spin-off, She-Ra: Princess of Power. Many of us also went to see the animated movie He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword.
Not many people saw the 1987 live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren, though. It was a Cannon Films production (enough said!), and the film is a cult classic that actually isn’t that bad. It is no Oscar winner, but it’s a lot better than some of Cannon’s output. (I’m looking at you, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace.)
This June, the hero returns to live-action once again. The new movie, Masters Of The Universe, will hit screens on June 5th. The film is coming to the U.S and Canada via Amazon MGM Studios. Internationally, Sony Pictures Releasing International will handle it. Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam / He-Man, while Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, and Idris Elba appear in supporting roles. The new trailer for the film has arrived from Eternia today. So, grab your magic swords and jump aboard your own Battlecat as we take a look.
PREMISE
Fleeing a devastating civil war, ten-year-old Adam Glenn, Crown Prince of the planet Eternia, is spirited away to his mother’s home planet, Earth, separating him from his ancestor’s Power Sword. Twenty years later, a now-adult Adam must return to his father’s home planet, Eternia, and rediscover his lost birthright, becoming He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, and leading the few remaining warriors of Eternia against the evil forces of Skeletor.
THOUGHTS
Wow, what a brilliant trailer. It holds enough back to surprise us when the film hits screens while also giving us enough to whet our appetites. Fans will be dissecting this new trailer for any easter eggs that are lying in plain sight, while audiences can feel the excitement that awaits them when they sit in the darkened theater and allow themselves to be transported away, even if only for a little while. Could the film be a major box office contender for the highest-grossing movie of the year? Will kids bug their parents to buy them the complete range of toys and merchandise that tie in with the film? Only time will tell.
