Review | The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026)

Our guest reviewer, Nick Gibbs-McNeil, says The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a brilliant follow-up to the brilliant first film!

Remember the days when you used to dread a movie version of your favourite gaming franchises? Then Angry Birds, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the legend that is Mario hit our big screens, and all the mess-ups of the past were forgiven. I’m not going to give too much away on the story for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, as I think it’s best to go into these films knowing as little as possible to fully enjoy. But if, like me, you’re a lifelong Nintendo and Mario Bros fan, you’re in for a massive treat.

MARIO LEVELS UP!

This latest adventure is colourful, fast-paced, and full of incredible nods to Nintendo’s past. These are guaranteed to excite the inner child within every adult. And apart from laughter in the right places, you won’t hear a mutter from any youngsters you take to the cinema to see this film. The big screen transfixed every kid in the media screening throughout the movie.

VERDICT

Nintendo and Illumination have created a brilliant follow-up to the brilliant first film. And deffo hang around right up to the final credits, as there are two really cool end-credit scenes. The last one is especially worth waiting for!
