The sequel to Universal’s record-breaking Super Mario Bros. Movie has just received its official title: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Look out, Mario fans, because the long-awaited sequel to The Super Mario Bros Movie officially has a title. With the beloved IP about to celebrate its 40th anniversary tomorrow, Nintendo and Universal Pictures treated fans to their first look at the new movie and revealed that the film will be titled: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The animated movie takes its title from Nintendo’s hit video game released in 2007 on the Wii.
Today, the news was unveiled during a Nintendo Direct presentation. However, the excitement didn’t stop there, as the studios also released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming adventure. In the fifty-second teaser, we see Mario sleeping under a tree with Princess Peach’s castle visible in the distance. The camera then pans up to space, revealing the official title of the film. THE FILM
The original Mario adventure was a global sensation back in 2023. To date, the film is the fifth-highest-grossing animated film of all time, having hauled in a whopping $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office from its entire lifetime run. So Universal, Illumination, and Nintendo will be hoping for a similar result when they unleash the film in cinemas on April 3, 2026. CAST & CREW
The original Mario adventure featured an all-star voice cast of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Thankfully, every member of the talented voice cast will return for the sequel, maintaining the continuity.
The film followed two Brooklyn plumbers, Mario and Luigi, who are transported to the mystical world of the Mushroom Kingdom. There, Mario must team up with Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong to save Luigi from the evil Koopa King Bowser.

RELEASE
This is exciting news! The original Mario movie was a blast, and its sequel is sure to top our watchlist. After Jack Black’s hilarious performance as Bowser, fans will be eager for more laughs, especially if it includes another catchy song like “Peaches.” Additionally, with Chris Pratt returning as Mario and a substantial budget ensuring impressive production values, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has easily become one of our most anticipated films of 2026.
