From the twisted mind of Eli Roth, August will see the horror in a cone as the red-band trailer for Ice Cream Man brings the chills and the blood.
During those hot summer days, when the sun beats down on us and we feel like a treat, that enticing tune from the ice cream van always catches our attention. Or that trip to the beach that often leads to us grabbing a cone. Perhaps even an after-school treat for the little ones. We all scream for ice cream. This August, those screams will be very real. From Eli Roth, the mastermind behind Hostel and Thanksgiving, comes his new horrific offering, Ice Cream Man. The movie will chill us to the bone when it is released in cinemas on August 7th. It stars Ari Millen, Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, and Sarah Abbott. The red-band trailer for the film has been released from the freezer today. Be advised, the trailer contains blood, gore, violence, and scenes that are extremely graphic. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
THE PREMISE
Idyllic suburban town Bayleen Bay descends into madness after a mysterious ice cream man serves frozen treats that turn children into homicidal maniac killers.
THOUGHTS
Ok, so that is extremely gross, nasty, vicious, and frightening. Just how I like it every now and again! The trailer tells us that the film contains some unrated content. I can’t say I’m surprised. Just by the look of what the trailer contains, the M.P.A will certainly demand cuts to the film before granting it an R-rating. Here in the UK, I would be shocked if the fully uncut, full version of the film were allowed to hit cinema screens. Even at our highest 18-rating, the film looks to be far too strong to ever be considered for an uncensored release.
The film is almost certain to get released in an edited form in the United States. But thankfully, they have the chance to see the full, unrated cut on the home entertainment formats. Here in the UK, we mostly get the unrated versions of horror films that have to be toned down in America. However, in this case, I would seriously doubt it. The film looks shocking to the core, reminding me of those ‘video nasties’ that emerged in the 1980s. Many of those are still edited, denying us the chance to see the full versions of what the censors objected to. Hopefully, I’m wrong, but I would be surprised if I am.
