THEATRICAL VERSION

SYNOPSIS

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

THE NEOGENICS SAGA?

While it’s an absolute joy to watch Spider-Man trade blows with the Punisher and Hulk, the real talking point is the apparent adaptation of the iconic Neogenic Nightmare storyline, which has the potential to reshape the MCU as we know it. For those unfamiliar with the comic arc, Peter Parker’s DNA begins to deteriorate due to the lingering effects of the radioactive spider bite. As his condition worsens, he embarks on a desperate search for a cure before his mutation spirals out of control, ultimately transforming him into the horrifying Man-Spider.

The storyline eventually brings Peter into contact with the X-Men, culminating in an unforgettable showdown with Wolverine. If Spider-Man: Brand New Day is indeed heading in that direction, it could finally pave the way for mutants to play a major role in the MCU while delivering one of Spider-Man’s most compelling stories ever brought to the big screen.

If Marvel and Sony can do the storyline justice, fans may be in for the greatest Spider-Man film ever made.

THE CAST

Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Joining him is Jon Bernthal, who makes his big-screen MCU debut as Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher.

Zendaya returns as MJ, while Jacob Batalon reprises his fan-favorite role as Ned. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, with persistent rumors suggesting she could be playing Jean Grey. Emmy-winning actress Liza Colón-Zayas also joins the franchise in a mystery role. Rounding out the cast, Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk, while Michael Mando reprises his role as Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion.

RELEASE

Seeing the Punisher and Spider-Man finally team up on the big screen is a full-circle moment that fans have been waiting years to witness. With Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, and an increasingly impressive supporting cast also on board, director Destin Daniel Cretton has all the ingredients for an unforgettable Spider-Man adventure. If the film is indeed drawing inspiration from the Neogenic Nightmare storyline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the potential to become one of the most ambitious and significant Spider-Man films ever made. Bring it on!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into UK cinemas on July 29, 2026.
