No one knows your heart like a sister. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles lead the cast in Universal Pictures and Focus Features new version of Sense And Sensibility. Watch the official trailer here.
No one knows your heart like a sister. Over the years, there have been eight movie and TV adaptations of Jane Austen’s debut novel, Sense And Sensibility. Perhaps the most memorable was the 1995 version that saw Emma Thompson win the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. There have been two soap operas loosely based on the novel, Kumkum Bhagya and Kasthooriman. A Tamil adaptation, Kandukondain Kandukondain, a Hallmark channel adaptation that featured black actors in the roles, and three BBC TV adaptations. However, the story has been absent from cinemas for thirty-one years.
No longer. Hitting screens on September 29th is a new version from Focus Features and Universal Pictures. This new version features Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw. Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Stacy Martin, and Tom Brooke also feature in the movie. This adaptation is directed by Georgia Oakley and adapted by Diana Reid. The official trailer for the film has been released. Let’s see what Elinor and Marianne Dashwood will be getting up to this time.
THE PREMISE
From Focus Features and Working Title comes an irresistible new take on Jane Austen’s iconic Sense and Sensibility: a charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed- Miles.
THOUGHTS
Ok, so this will certainly keep lovers of Jane Austen’s iconic masterpiece and fans of the romantic period drama very happy. It looks like it perfectly captures the essence of the novel, bringing it to life in a delightful way. With Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as the two sisters, the film has an ace in the hole. Both are outstanding actresses, both, as you can see in the trailer, can easily pull off their respective roles with grace and elegance, and both are perfectly suited to lead the film. Could the film be another Oscar-nominated or even winning version? We will find out in September.
Sense And Sensibility will open in cinemas on September 25th.
