We are now less than 100 days from Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. As an attendee who has been to multiple Celebrations, I can tell you that there are many things to see and do at this event. However, for new attendees a Star Wars event of this size may be intimidating, frustrating and disappointing. I know I felt all these things when I attended my first Star Wars Celebration, back in 2012.
There are many factors that determine what activities are feasible or not during this event. These factors include the size of the facility, the number of people attending, the amount of time needed to navigate to where you need to go, the number of hours (Yes, HOURS!) you may have to wait in line before an event or panel you want to attend starts and the sheer number of things to do that are scheduled at or about the same time. Therefore, what I learned over the course of attending multiple Celebrations, it is best to plan ahead by deciding before arriving what are the MUST do activities.
To help newbies determine what are their MUST do activities, I asked fans from two different Star Wars related Facebook Groups what is the one MUST do activity they are planning on doing during Star Wars Celebration. Hopefully, these responses will help new attendees plan ahead and help avoid some of the feelings that I experienced at my first Star Wars Celebration.
Going to panels
For Matt Clifton he wants to make sure he attends ANY premiere episodes of Star Wars Rebels.
For Michael Taillon he wants to attend any panels/live podcast for Skywalking through Neverland.
For Nicky Kumar it is all about attending any panel that has Dave Filoni on it.
For ChickaPhat it is about attending the Disney panel:
“There may be some fun news and reveals during this year’s panel.”
For my husband, Michael, it is all about the Star Wars Celebration Exhibition and Artist areas where he spends most of his time looking to add a few cool and unique things to our Star Wars collection.
For Missy Ky’a it is about getting a special Star Wars tattoo that she missed getting at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim:
“I’m trying for a tattoo appointment slot. It is one thing I wanted to do in Anaheim but missed out on.”
Meeting Star Wars celebrities
For myself, I lost out on an opportunity to meet with Carrie Fisher when I attended previous Star Wars Celebrations. However, there are many other Star Wars celebrities and I plan on meeting at least one of the Star Wars celebrities that I have not met previously.
Meeting with fellow Star Wars fans
For Charley Mersen Wright Ashby it is about making friends while attending the event.
For Michael Ehmcke it is about networking.
For Fangirl Sandra Choute it is all about meeting the people she has connected with online.
For Marcus Doring it is all about the 501st group photo!
For Amanda Bond it is about performing with Saber Guild for the first time.
However, I believe what David Manderville says is best:
“I just have to be there with my friends…anything else I do WITH them is a bonus!”
Hopefully, this will help newbies start to figure out what the one or two MUST do activities are to help avoid feeling intimidated, frustrated and disappointed when attending their first Star Wars Celebration.
