Box Office: Black Panther Triumphs

The Wakandan Warrior reigns supreme over his predecessors!

Further to his rave reviews, Marvel’s Wakandan warrior pounced into cinemas this weekend and gave BLACK PANTHER a record-setting box office debut with an projected opening of $192 million in the United States alone! That figure is the biggest February opening ever, topping the $132.4 million start of previous record holder Deadpool.

Black Panther’s opening is the second-biggest Marvel debut behind the $207.4 million opening weekend of Avengers Assemble. In fact, aside from the meeting of MCU big guns, T’Challa and his Wakandan warriors had the best opening of any other comic book adaptation in history.

Box Office: Black Panther Triumphs

The Marvel hero’s first solo adventure from acclaimed director Ryan Coogler is also the fifth-biggest United States opening behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World and Avengers Assemble.

Additionally, Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa grabbed $169 million from international audiences for a worldwide opening of $361 million. This whopping box office return cements Black Panther’s place amongst his peers and paves the way for the release of Marvel’s next blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War. Also, with the summer release of Ant-Man and the Wasp looming on the horizon, Marvel is sure to dominate the box office for the better part of 2018.
