The Stanger Things and IT star ain’t afraid of no ghosts!
Sony Pictures shocked the world back in January when it announced that a sequel to the much-beloved original Ghostbusters had been in the works for some time and was expected to hit our screens in 2020. Ivan Reitman, director of the original movie had agreed to assume the duties of the executive producer role while his son, Jason would be taking the reins for what has been described a continuation of the original Ghostbusters mythology.
Banished was the abysmal and unsolicited reboot of 2016.
This was the Real Ghostbusters, a movie the fans had been calling for since the finale of Ghostbusters II back in 1989. And before we even had a chance to catch our breath, Jason Reitman took to social media to unveil the mind-blowing teaser trailer nobody knew existed.
Since its unveiling, rumours have been rife relating to the production, cast and storyline of Ghostbusters III. Original stars Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson were quick to offer their services while the characteristic silence expected from Bill Murray’s camp was louder than ever, and all the while Jason Reitman has been busy behind the scenes putting this unexpected gem together. Sources close to the director believe the story will follow a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.
How this links to the original Ghostbusters remains to be seen, however, we are hearing news of the first casting for the project which comes in the form of Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard. The young sensation shot to fame in the Netflix’s tentpole series, (a role that saw him strap on a proton pack during season 2) and further cemented his acting chops in IT. Rumoured to be in final talks for the role of his mother is Gone Girl‘s, Carrie Coon.
This is exciting news. Jason Reitman appears to be sourcing top quality performers for his Ghostbusters sequel and with Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson offering their services so enthusiastically this project is building momentum faster than ever anticipated.
Ghostbusters III is expected to bust some ghosts on July 10, 2020.
